Anyone know any history on this car? Picked it up off of marketplace in Upstate SC. Appears to have been a pretty well thought out project. Well built in the mid 60's if i were guessing
Cool find! Bucket seats, dashboard components, brake and clutch pedals all look to be 1965 Ranchero. Does it have a SBF drivetrain? If so, someone used a wrecked Ranchero as a major donor...
Yeah, no idea of history but it does seem to be built around a Falcon or Ranchero donor. Looks like it's survived very much intact too (other than those tires), cool one to see.
Yeah, best I can tell the donor was a 65 falcon or ranchero. Has the 289/4 speed/rear/wiring harness/seats/instrument cluster/and pedals
Shifter location isn’t as terrible as it appears. I’m 6’4 and drove it 40 miles home without thinking the shifter was in the wrong spot
Optical illusion I guess - like I said, neet car - plan to keep it as is or are you going to make changes?
Man I would swear I’ve seen photos of that car in the last week. Those back fenders are what’s grabbing my eye. honestly think it was probably built in the 50’s and updated with the ranchero/ falcon stuff. Very cool find! I’ll keep an eye out and see if I dont come across the photos I think I saw
Cool, for sure built to be legal with the fender laws of the time where it was built but it just looks right. With that engine and trans setup I'd vote for 15 inch steelies with bias "narrow" white walls to reflect 65/67 as the time frame with moons and rings or proper era Ford poverty caps. The what appear to be Keystones and white letter tires are correct for that time frame but overpower the car and make it look like it was used for a tire or wheel add. Turning the car into the background for the wheels.
Small update, I think I’ve figured out a name of who owned the car in the 1960’s, George R Haynie. From one story I’ve gathered that the car was built in a high school shop class in the 1950’s, possibly by George. From census reports it looks like he would’ve most likely been in Toccoa, ga at that point. By the early 60’s the car was in Laurens, sc with a flathead in it. Late 60’s it appears to have been in or around Williamston,sc. All of this would’ve presumably been under Haynie’s ownership.
