Here are a few more. My Buddy Chris Rusbach's '56 Crown Victoria and my '56 Olds Holiday 98. IMG_5149.jpg

I also ran skirts on my 57 Ford. IMHO, cruiser skirts are a natural on 1955-59 Fords.

Skirts can accentuate the "long and low" aesthetic of a custom. However, the biggest factor on whether skirts will look great or terrible on the car is the car's stance. If you're running skirts, the car MUST be lowered, and MUST be either uniformly lowered, with the rocker parallel to the ground, or rear lowered more than the front. Doesn't need to be a "tail dragger", but a rearward rake. Only the sidewall of the tire should be visible, or just a peek of the rim/cap. The old adage that customs don't have rear wheels applies here.

A nose down, hot rod stance makes skirts look terrible. It's a clash of styles and runs counter to the entire purpose of the skirt, which is to cover the wheel.

These examples exist only in my mind, shown courtesy of Photoshop.

The skirts here came stock on the '65 Bonneville.

I’m a big fan of skirts now but when I was first driving back in the 70s, I saw a bunch of them get thrown away.

Well sir I beg to differ. There is always exceptions to rule . The 47 Merc I hauled home has Edmunds heads , 2 carb Edmunds intake along with a Columbia 2 speed and skirts . Bill would put in two 40 pound rectangular cast iron bars in the trunk and drag race the car . It was fast for the time period.
