I think it depends on the car. IMO my 40 looks good with the white walls, but the 32 looks best with black walls. Its like anything, do what you like.

I picked up a couple wheel and tires from a guy running Dirt track racing. Super wide and light silver painted rim with WIDE tires. The smaller of the two was 29 inches in Diameter, and all of 18 wide. the other which is now a cool coffee table is 33 inches in diameter, and at least 30 inches wide with little square lugs and white good year lettering. I wonder how far down the road I'd get with those on a open wheel T or Deuce? They were lighter than just about any tire I had ever handled as well. Has anybody tried open wheels with fat tires all around?

My 5 window doesn't look nearly as cool (to me) with blackwalls.

My Dad's 3 window looks killer in blackwalls. It looked great with my whitewalls. One of these days I am going to get him some blackwall 'stones, and then it will completely RULE!

My cabrio is getting blackwalls I think. I've got plenty of time to decide, but this week ( :D) I think blackwalls. FWIW, most of the open wheel cars I am designing at the moment are getting blackwalls too. Start of a new trend? Maybe. More of an evolution and refinement of my own design aesthetic and build style, speaking for me personally.

It's really more about the car than the tires in my opinion. Some need the whitewalls (my 38, chad's 36) while others just need a more subtle approach.

Can't go wrong either way... but I must agree with what Django says "My 5 window doesn't look nearly as cool (to me) with blackwalls".

I think it depends on what the car looks like ..paint wise ... :)

With the price of WWW, I can hardly say I am tired of them since I can practically buy a set of skinny whites for my Galaxie at one of the discount houses for the price of one WWW radial. WWW are nice and it really depends on what you are going to put them on.

I think this question is more of a symptom of Traditional Burnout than taste. I have seen this developing on the board, this is like the ho-hum at***ude towards the SBC and red wheels. Could it be the beginning of the shake out that everyone has been prophesizing about?

I agree with those who said it depends on the car.

A custom has to have some sort of whitewalls. Either wide whites or skinny whites. I don't think I've ever seen a traditional custom or bellflower style custom that looked good with blackwalls. The customs below would not look right without whitewalls.

A 60's style show rod like the T below also has to have the whitewalls. But on some hot rods whitewalls seem to distract my eyes from the overall car. It's like the whitewalls draw your attention right to them and you don't see the car as a whole if that makes any sense. The Hot Rods running blackwalls below would have that effect if they were running whitewalls.

I've been studying a lot of old pictures lately trying to decide the look for my '34 sedan. It seems that the Hot rods used strictly for the dry lakes or drag racing tended to have blackwalls. I would imagine thats due to the fact that whitewalls cost more and didn't make them go faster. Those cars to me have that sinister look to them.

So I guess that's a long drawn out explanation to say I like them both.

How 'bout blackwalls on the Right (conservative) side and wide whitewalls on the Left (liberal) side. That way no matter how you look at it, it will be politically correct.
