It was the first NASCAR race at Atlanta, which was won by Fireball Roberts in a Pontiac. Cotton Owens, Jack Smith, Bobby Johns, and Fred Lorenzen rounded out the top five. The race was 200 laps, had 12 lead changes, and an average speed of 112 miles per hour.
