amayama.com is anther source of parts from japan. No idea if they can help but it may be worth checking out.
Fixed the brake problem. The spring on the pushrod was compressing and stopping the rod from going full stroke into the cylinder. I'll have to bleed it again, but its definitely better. Was able to drive it out of the garage today with the choke on. Then it flooded out. Its gonna sit here for a bit.
Do you have a vacuum leak somewhere? That may account for it running better with the choke on. Have you considered adapting a small Holley or Ford 1-barrel carb to it?
ok, after letting it sit out overnight i got in this morning to put it away. Hit the starter button and not even a full crank and it started without the choke on. Now its stuck in the grass.... First real mod I do to this is gotta be something for traction. This 1 wheel peel ain't gonna cut it.
Current situation: FUBAR Stranded on side of road. No fuel issue. Cause: pickup line in tank fell off bulkhead fitting. Currently laying in bottom of fuel tank. Atleast the rain stopped.
Ok, now that my day has settled down I'll recap. That accelerator pump has been kicking my ass for weeks. (Most likely the previous owner's for years) After that Chevy Luv accelerator pump experience I learn for certain that i needed a 15mm cup seal to make this thing work. I spent many hours online trying to find seals based off the dimensions i had. I ordered a couple different ones and waited for usps. Yesterday the first seal came in. This one was actually listed as an oil seal for a vintage motorcycle, but the dimensions were perfect. Open it up to realize that being an oil seal it had a steel core, oops. So i decided to tear apart the Luv pushrod and adapt it to work with this seal. It worked! But still was a tad short(about 1/8" short now rather than 1/4") Worked, but not perfect. Today the actual rubber accelerator pump seal came in. This one i found listed for a Holley 2bbl. Just ever so slightly over 15mm. I put this one on the stock piston rod. I sprayed it heavily with lube and gingerly stretched it over the ridge that held the leather cup on. Then pressed the sides into place. Because it was slightly oversized i had to install the rod in the carb, then lower the top down onto it. (Not the fun part) It was pretty tight at first, but everything seemed to settled in place after working the throttle a few times. Fingers crossed my carb issues are finally over. Next on the docket is trying to fish that line out of the gas tank. Hoping magnet on a stick will work...
First thing i did when i got it was pull the drain plug, empty the water and old gas in the tank, and flushed it out. It was pretty bad. Still have some slime in the bottom, but i have a cheap inline filter that I'll be switching out regularly for a while
Front bumper mounts have seen better days. I'll try and tweak them straight. If that dont work I'll just make new ones This is how it sits with all the bolts tight
Loads of tweaking, hammering, and pulling. Good'nuff. The front passenger corner took a hit at some point. Grill and front of fender were pushed back about an inch and a half. Don't really notice it till the bumper was on. Front frame horns where the bumper brackets mount were both tore off and stick welded back on in the past. Nothing straight haha. Decent now
Isn't that all Jap stuff? Put my 944 next to a RX7 for example...or Nissan Patrols next to Rovers.. I'm pretty sure I read Datsun and Austin had an arrangement for the bodies to be made.
Had an issue with this only revving with the stupid rotted rubber snorkel on the carb. However, when under load it sucks that electrical tape shut killing the engine. Another unavailable piece. So i came up with this little number for science sake. It ain't pretty but it solved the problem. If the motor ends up staying I'll make a more refined version of it. Took it for a short jaunt and now all my carb issues are truly gone. And it is actually quite peppy. Had it up to 45mph effortlessly. I didnt dare go faster because of the still spongy brake pedal.
I like your style, fix and drive to failure, fix and drive to failure, it's really the only way to bomb proof a vehicle That woulda been a helluva an entrance!
