Trying to ID this intake I ended up with in a trade. I'm just looking for confirmation that it is a 348/409 intake and what would a ballpark value be on it in its current condition. I'm more familiar with mopar engines so I'm just matching the runners and bolt holes with pictures of gaskets and 348/409 is the closest I have found. Last picture is a drop of vinegar to see if it was aluminum or magnesium.
Bolt pattern is that of a 348/409". with the lower performance, smaller valve heads. The difference between this intake and the high performance heads is that on the high performance heads and intake the intake runners are a complete rectangle. Lower performance heads and intake have the intake bolt in the center of the two intake passages. Still a cool intake and does have value. Might check and see what current new items are listed for to give you an idea. Nice score!
too bad someone hacked that road draft tube through the cragar logo... looks like the ports have been ground on? you are going to have to get gaskets and lay them on there to see what it is. the upper bolts are spaced higher on the HP 409. here is a 348 gasket here is a 409 gasket
Agreed, while the bolt pattern appears correct for the 348 or low/standard performance 409 heads, the port opening seems awful wide, like they've been opened up quite a bit. See the opening sizes in the gaskets shown above. Mike
Look's like a regular 'ol Big Block Chevy with a soup can stuck to the bottom. The ends of the manifold don't look like a W-Motor.
I thought regular big block myself at first but the port design and bolt holes led me to 348/409. Coolant passages have been epoxied at some point and that funky road draft tube installed. Ports are all hogged out and uneven but all pretty much the same size. I'm sure this thing has some stories to tell. Here are some more pictures...
I've been debating if it is even worth removing the tube and welding up the hole but seeing as how it is right in the middle of the Cragar logo and who knows what quality of magnesium they used so it might make it worse.
