Technical Steering Column Tube Size 1930-31 Ford Model A

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, Jun 6, 2025.

  1. What is the factory steering column tube size on a 1930-31 Ford Model A? I can't find anything in a Google search except for irritation...

The 30/31 factory steering box had a lip/collar as part of the box that tube clamped on too.
Some one can pitch in with that real size ? The bracket hanging off the dash as well has clamp for tube size!
I no longer use the factory Ford Box,and did a home made column, from a shiny 2in. alum tube, home made bracket an end bearing.
Ford was between 2in. an 2.5,but we should get some posting the facts.

  3. Did you still use the factory hanging bracket or did you fabricate a new one?

    For what it’s worth. eBay seller say’s 1 5/8” ID on a column he’s selling. So I’d say 1 3/4”.

  5. I've got a steering box for a 28-29, but it's the one that's fully integrated. If the hanging bracket is the same size for a 28-29 as it is for a 30-31, I'll have my answer...

This says 1-3/4" OR 2". I'm going to go measure the hanger on my tank...

Right below the column drop, the tube OD is 1.75" on my bone stock 31. If you need some other measurements, let me know.
