yeah, I gotta spend some money for tires. I had the 6" slicks already, and they did work pretty well to run 11.44
He didn't build it for show, it's bult for business and I guarantee it will have appropriate meats on it when it is being raced!
thanks, I have the cable already, it's just a matter of not being able to deal with a laptop while driving. I use it all the time when I'm stopped, to load tunes and save tunes etc. and my kid has datalogged with it while driving. I just need a way to mount the computer so it stays put and is accessible. The small screen has that going for it, but not much else.
What about a knowledgeable copilot that can run the laptop while you drive or drive while you operate the laptop, just thinking outside the box. Dan
That's a good idea, but I also like to drive by myself. In the end, I probably just want to get it tuned well enough that I never have to mess with it. Oh...I got the speedometer working! now I need to connect it to the computer and get it to be datalogged. I had purchased a gizmo that converts the cruise control speed sensor I have (that screws onto the speedometer gear fitting) to a square wave signal that the digital speedometer in the car can read. It took some fiddling, but finally seems to be doing it's thing. I need to change the gear in the transmission to get it to read correct, it's really close, only about 5% slow. Here's a datalog snapshot from the drive I took a little while ago. When I open it up at 60 mph, about 3000 rpm, it doesn't spin the tires. But it gets going faster than the speed limit pretty quickly. looks like it got close to 8 psi boost.
Jim The Jeep speedometer driven gears are roughly 3% per tooth so two teeth less will speed you up 6%.
I don't have the Jeep gears in it, since I swapped in a TH400, but I think the numbers are about the same I'll do a bit more testing before I change them. I expect one or two teeth difference will fix it. I want to check the odometer accuracy first, though.
@squirrel Cad mount out of / or for Cab , Police , Ambulance.. Or pice of ply wood, stop / speed sign & tubing for mount & tilt , off floor or off bottom of dash , Make a few L or U or Z brackets, foam on Edges to protect lap top with wing nuts for Quick release removal . Speedo signal How about a Ring modified to Rear Yoke with pick up instead of inside Trains I Do not know & asking, Hypothetically if Ring has 10 teeth, Does it mater if the 10 teeth are in a 2 inch circle or in a 5 inch circle ? It still would be picking up 10 pulses . Or would the signal /frequency be clearer ,& more stable the smaller the Ring ?
I think I've solved the speedometer issue. As for the laptop mount...I can come up with something, just have to switch my mind to it. I need to make a console/cup holder thing to keep up with the modern cars, perhaps I can get by with a pocket for the computer to sleep in. It might be something I don't really need to deal with, I don't know yet. As I learn the system more, and get it running the way I want, I think it becomes less important, actually.
That Track by Pic's / Video Definitely qualifies to have some big ones Especially Low 5:10 & quicker ,over last few years they have added more pavement over grass incenter , I have not seen track in person tho to walk ,
The dyno session was fun. Didn't change the tune at all, but learned a lot. here is some data from the last pull
The main hoop bend on the drivers side looks like it was bent on a muffler machine. Is it a distorted pic or ? Reason I ask is those bends shouldn't be capable of passing tech so I am guessing it's just the angle of the pic ...
I met up with the local kid that won the second chance race (30's pickup true gangster) on his way to the race. He was relaying some parts to another racer for me, but he said it'd take solid 4.60's to win that race. My last words to him before he left was "be safe", that track looks sketchy as all get out with that grass.
I think Jim installed the cage the same day he left for his first test session IIRC. Probably slapped some paint on it and headed out. Ain't no show piece, it's a go piece!
