I went to look at some cars for sale today, and this was in the pile of stuff for sale. Seems the guy has bought several cars from Hines son Mike, and this was one of them. It was supposedly built around 1960, and still has the running flathead in it. The car is pretty rough, but if you want the real thing, it can be had for a mear $15,000.
I have to admit... not much to look at and expensive too. But I would imagine it was beautiful during its prime. It would be great to see some of the pics back when it was just finished.
$15K for a complete early Ford convert (40?) doesn't seem bad at all, especially considering it has history behind it. Restore it back to it's former glory, but with a stock grille (I'm not diggin' the Packard unit) and you'd have a hell of a cool ride with history to boot. Me, I'd restore the mechanicals, recover the top and seat, and drive/preserve it as-is for awhile, at least until I could dig up some info/history on it)
There was also this 41 Chevy that Hines chopped, but it was done recently, and very nicely done. This one has a 350-350 with Jamco suspension under the front. He wants $8500 for this one, and the chop reportedly cost $10,000, which makes the car a bargain.
The cars are in Phoenix. He has about 40 cars for sale, mostly F-1s & F-100s. 2 58 T-Birds $2500 each, and a variety of Chevy stuff. A 53 Chevy sedan delivery, original and running $7500, pretty nice 57 Chevy long bed $2500. a couple of 51 Merc 4 drs, ands lots more. If you want anything call him @623-205-1822. Don't call to talk cars, he is a busy guy and wants to sell.
....oh man... this one looks like a good start!!! Do you know what condition the engine/trans is in? Does it run? Do you know if the guy has an email address?
I don't know about e-mail, but I'll see if I can find any more info about it. The chop on the 41 is one of the nicest I've ever seen. The proportions are perfect.
I know that this is a very old post but I would love to get my hands on a car the Bill Hines touched!
You are dealing with some 20 year old information, the original poster was on this site within the last year, so there is some hope for you. This is a pretty powerful tool the hamb. If you post up some current pictures that will create a bit of buzz and each posting brings the thread back to the top. Good Luck.
Sorry for the tutorial, I see you are a regular, would still like to see some pictures. Was the chevy also available?
@daylatedollarshort he already posted current photos, this thread was shared in that post I’m ***uming that’s how he got to this old thread. looks the same sans bumpers
The front end/grille design works better with the Plymouth front bumper in my opinion, the proportions are off without it. And I take back what I said 20 years ago, I would not change out the grille.
It’s amazing how our taste can change through the years, what was once an ugly duckling is now a swan. I’m that way with a few of the post war manufacturers I used to think that they were UGLY but now I’d love to own one or more.
