After three years and three builders I decided to finish it myself. The guy that did the fine tuning on the mechanicals but the other two left me hanging and yet they seem to get mad at the guy paying them. So it's going to get finished as best as I can and some sort of old paint look. The chop was not the greatest and the last guy that has it thought he was better at body work than he is so whamo it's now home. Just need to slap some paint on throw in the windows and drive it.
If you decide the whole chop top thing ain’t gonna cut it you could make a convertible out of it. Like so.
The chop isn't real bad just some spots hard to finish. Some day I hope to build a Roadster but not this time
Sorry to hear it's been in shop jail. Looks like it will be a nice ride when complete. Do the best you can on the paint, just to show them!
OH YEAH get the right pipes on that Hemi ,, It'll take care of the rest. Hope you'll enjoy the exercise of saving your grocery money.
How’s the passsenger side.? I can see the issue you dealing with on driver side I’ve chopped a cab and always considered the doors to be the most difficult part of the process
Overall the top chop looks very good , you've got the best looking engine ever made , cool '39 headlights , what's not to like ?
Well this 70 year old is going to give it my best shot. I guess the chop is not bad just some areas hard to blend for lack of a better term. Thank Joe
I’m pretty far away from Pennsylvania, but it looks pretty good from here. If you are worried about the body work, you can always join the flat black crowd, and do something different down the road. I think that would be a stand out at most of the gatherings that I get to, hope you keep us posted.
The more gloss the paint job has, the more imperfections show up. Any flat paint will nearly make imperfections go away, but a low shine enamel will also do a pretty good job of covering up imperfections. Dark colors are the next thing that highlights imperfections. Choose your color and shine carefully, then enjoy the drive. Outside of car people, most people just like to see old cars on the road and are not too concerned about them being perfect. My son used to tell me that the only thing he can see when he is driving the car is the hood an the top of the front fenders, if they look good while he is driving down the road, he is pretty happy. I had a 39 Plymouth business coupe, I know what they looked like. Your car has been modified a lot, it would attract my attention at a show because I know its different. Wasn't that the purpose of the top chop, attracting attention because it looks different?
The top was chopped when I bought the car. I had the windows filled in. I am making progress daily. I have been learning on the job how to b Putty and sand. My new career at 70.
Had one of those a few years back, didnt have time to work on it so I sold it.. still kicking myself in the ass
I took it to a garage on Saturday to have all the leaks fixed including the main seal. He is also going to finish the exhaust and a few other things for me. I figured I should get this done before I paint it.
