Just keep doing exactly what you are doing, please, regardless of comments or the lack thereof. It's a treat to watch and follow along, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is inspired by your progress. What can you tell us about those (assuming) magnets you are using? Is the black triangular thing on top an on/off type thing or maybe just a knob? May be a down under thing we (I) haven't seen in the U.S., but they look interesting.
Initially the outer sides of the frame started as one piece and I was going to fold the skin over the frame but I changed my mind after making the skin. I have changed it to somewhat like a ford inner and outer. Initially I put in the small (outside) 45 degree bend into a straight piece of material and then shrank the inside with a foot shrinker to get my shape same as the 1/4 panel. I then put in the inner 45 degree bend. Because I changed direction they are now made of 2 pieces with a final 90degree bend welded around perimeter - the four edges of the frame. I thought this way would give me a better way for water to drain into the boot gutter and reasonable gaps up top. Yep they are Mag-Jig Magnetic Clamps the small ones are good for 95lb and the bigger ones 150lb of force. They really help me out as I mostly work alone in the shed and being able to be turned on and off is really handy. I got them from Lee Valley (Canada) some time ago and were well worth the price and postage. We can get them local in Aus now which is good.
So left off with the bootlid I made, basically I was waiting for a while until I had a few items to paint. I put some paint protection on the inside before welding the skin to the frame. I got some struts from the vintage car club and they work fine to hold the lid up. My original bonnet didn’t fit that well and needed some repairs so I had a go at making a new one. I have used late model bootlid latches to hold it down in place. It was a mission to push the car into the area where my hoist is but when I got it over I attempted to make an exhaust. This is my roof insert, I countersunk and welded a bunch of threaded screws in place. It will be trimmed with 5mm padding and Black cloth. But it won’t have a strip around the edge as the screws will hold it in place and sikaflex or Mastik to seal it down. I painted the top of the insert when I did some bits for the chassis Also been busy on the inside making a bunch of pieces for the dashboard and rear window trims to screw into also a header panel. Panel on the firewall to screw all my electrical components to. I ground back all the welds boxing the chassis and it was sand blasted after my 1st inspection. Chassis has original leaf springs used in the rear. I have not posted the front as it’s HAMB toxic ifs.
Great work, another wooden framed Chev saved.. Those boot lid struts are from EJ-EH Holden wagons (from memory) HD on had the wind up window..
Thanks I had no clue what those struts were off, I do plan on getting them coated but I have no idea how to redo the rivets to dip and coat them properly.
