I like the carpet to match the drapes as a general rule. My maroon roadster got a maroon, metal flake, flathead this year.

  3. Another vote for either gold or bronze. Maybe even silver. I always like to paint the engine to match the cars secondary color. Red on my 53 to match the red roof(black body) and blue on my 54 to match the blue roof(white body). Ties it in while still having contrast

With the brown interior, how about a root beer brown engine? Honestly I'd probably colour match the body or engine bay. You've got a lot going on already.

Since it is a Ford why not check out the green from a '56 Meteor? It's not too overpowering and would go well with the body colour!

  8. Deep down I'd be saying Chevy Orange. On the other hand, I painted the SBC in my '36Ford THUNDER BIRD red and it looked amazing. But it is you car...Mitch

Supposedly research shows black sheds the most internal heat. Ford Blue looks good. I painted an Olds 455 that color....

I did do the matching the exterior thing on my Merc when I redid it over the winter, but that's mainly because it was how the last guy had it that way and it was done back in '56. I'd probably do that engine in silver if I was choosing, but I'm trying to preserve it the way it was done:

    I agree with Anthony.........;)

The color you have chosen is kind of sedate, not fettered by glitzy or garish paint . I'd keep the engine in that same vein and use a similar shade or color to work with what you have on the outside. Might even go with a darker green to somewhat provide some contrast under the hood. Darker is also somewhat easier to keep clean if you drive the car frequently. :)

  12. Chevy orange! End of story.

When I painted the engine for my Ford pickup I wanted to keep them guessing, so I painted the SBC Old Ford Blue. Must have worked somewhat...had a guy ask me once whether it was a 292 or 312:rolleyes:

That's more than enough reason for me.:D
It also makes any chrome/polished dress parts look their best.

    I'm STILL thinking Yellow... :p

  16. Thanks guys, I appreciate your opinions...I'm thinking the shades of green (either body color, or shades darker) will need a deeper look.

Neon green block with pink valve covers and sheet metal . I don’t recommend. A friend rebuilt an engine for his brother and did that out of orneriness . His brother went to trade the car in on another car a few years later. The salesman saw the color of the engine and said no deal lol
