1981, BW ST-10 Trans

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by bjinx, Jun 6, 2025.

  1. Trying to find what vehicle this BW ST-10 trans came in. All date codes shows to be 1981, 6 rings on input shaft indicates wide ratio. But I can't find a model with the electrical plug @ the reverse shaft, see pic.
A friend has the trans and he wants to sell it, but he would like to know what it came out of.
    Thanks

By 1981 it would have been GM a-body or f-body.

Partial Vin stamped on it should tell you the car assembly plant, which will narrow it down.

  5. What was the electric plug on the reverse gear shaft? An idiot light to show you were in reverse.

  9. I've had three ST-10 transmissions. One from an '80 Z28, one from an '80 Corvette and one from an '81 Trans Am. The Z28 and Corvette had cast iron cases and were wide ratio, the Trans Am had an aluminum case and was a close ratio. I don't know if my experience with them means anything but I find it interesting that yours is an aluminum case yet wide ratio ...

Didn't the Monza, Skyhawk, Sunfire also come with a T10?
