We all love the old gas pumps, many of us remember using them in our youth and a lot of younger guys just appreciate their look & styles, lets see what you like. HRP
I love old gas pumps, but so does every buddy else. The prices are too high for me to justify buying one.
Yep. Complete down the hose just visible in the lower part of your picture that rings the bell and lets him know when you rolled into his driveway.
My Grandad had a Flying A*,looked super close to this picture. $ s was made from repair work, gas was not the big $$ maker. The Fleet Repair n upkeep was, along with all the locals cars. Was mid state NY,an we'd go up from Miami Fla. summers. So My Dad could build home's with his dad n brother. I'd often get left off as early teen at Flying A,and kind of work all day for Grandad. Drain oil cans, clean sparkplugs, clean up work bays or parts.
They are very expensive. Too much so for me to justify for something to stare at and dust. I picked this one up at the Portland raceway swap meet this year for $100. I sandblasted the tins, had them powder-coated by a buddy, polished all of the stainless, stuck some decals on it and a globe. Good enough. Total into it around $700. 1959 Wayne Duo. It'll go in my display garage with the hot rods after I epoxy the floor.
I bought mine from a guy that bought a farm near me and was going to develop the property in 1979, the farmer used it for diesel, I bought the pump for a hundred dollars, I spent about 200 bucks for paint and a reproduction globe & hose. HRP
The collection I work for has close to 200 restored gas pumps, from the teens to the 50's. Unfortunately since this is a private collection, I am not allowed to post pictures or I will get fired.
I have a few I restored and two more that I am working on. I keep my Mobilgas Special inside my shop and my two ENCO Pumps on an island in front of my shop. I will be doing the next two in local brands, Wisco 99 and Pugh Oil Co.
My granddaddy used to own the repair shop at the local Gulf station (which is now a bank) and his business sponsored his dirt track cars. So I am on the hunt for a nice pump to restore from that era (1951).
