    Hello,

When the original Sidewinder first came on the scene, it was the most unusual race car to date. The motor was behind the driver and not only that, the motor was turned sideways and supercharged. This design threw many folks in a puzzlement, but the early version did have its problems.

Then when Joe Malliard Automotive was asked to add in their two cents to the picture, it became a work in progress. The next time we all saw the next reworked version,

It was a little sleek in the overall design. With Jack Chrisman at the driving position, it handled well and took off with a flurry.

But, if one was standing in the staging area, the noise of the supercharger and hemi motor was powerful. It combined with the loud exhausts and the giant rumble was intense.

I was able to be in the staging area with my 16mm color movie camera and recorded the startup, return to the starting line and get positioned in the “correct” selected spot for a fast run. The noise was intense and the whine of the supercharger and drive whistled as it came to a position for the next run.

The original sound was not captured in the 1959 film. It was the original sound from an old LP album, that was recorded and presented to the public a couple of months after my filming in August. The sound was recorded at the September 1959 Nationals in Detroit. In December of 1959, my brother and I bought the original LP album and were enthralled every time we listened to it at home.

Many years later, it was added to the digital film I took in August 1959. TURN IT UP TO HEAR THE SUPERCHARGED MOTOR SET UP AND TAKE OFF…

I'll try to get a better pic of mine, but yes the two ports are askew, angled to the straight rotors to stop the pulsing.

I've produced a few sets of these castings to suit the R034 Wade - from a Commer Knocker truck. These give you a front nose piece (it's originally bolted to the engine) to create a snout & bearing retainer in. Plus a nice fined cover to replace the rest tin one at the rear & a carb mount. 470203703_10162217750778864_8505902937613941931_n.jpg
