Projects 1932 commercial grille on model A

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by daylatedollarshort, Feb 7, 2022.

  1. Red oxide, you are singing my tune- cheap, looks good, and available. I don’t really like or understand facebook marketplace and the grille went off the radar, so I haven’t seen or bought it. I will be fine with the original 31, but there is a swap meet coming up, where I can see touch, feel and pay with cash.

Actually there is little difference in the 1932 p***enger grille and the commercial grille. HRP

  4. I like the commercial grille also. Looks great on that black roadster above! HAMBer @Dan gave me one that I chopped down and used on my old touring.

...yes, until you have to repair one:eek:. The Comm. grille bars are part of the whole grille stamping, and then the splash apron is welded in. There is no way to do repairs on the back of the lower bars, or the front of the splash without cutting the splash panel out:mad:. The p***. grille on the other hand, has a removable insert so all areas have easy access for repair. But yes, they are dimensionally very close;)

I've probably showed R.J.'s coupe before, but I think it looks pretty good.

I Have no idea what I have on mine , its a fair bit deeper than a 32 shell but it looks like a 32 shell in outline .. it had a funky curve on the bottom edge which kinda looked like it could have been on some kind of cab over .. I still like it, its become part of the car which was built up from odds and ends of appropriate period for under $8000 and some old school horse trading.

They don't look best when they're taller than the cowl (or on a line following the cowl).

I believe it's a 33/34 as it has the deeper profile where-as the 32 Commercials are closer to p***enger car profile in depth...

33 trucks didn't use a bullnose [emblem holder]
    34 trucks did...
    34 had a stainless trim...
    34 tilted back slightly more...
both had a small peak along the bottom... H I H...

My Buddy had an a coupe with 32 commercial shell with fenders . Looked as good as one could ask for . That was his only car , drove it for years . I was in need of a ride home one day . Call him he shows up , off we go , he is hammerin it pretty hard and says “I hope my weld holds , the frame broke under you yesterday ! “ we got to the garage I crawled under it and was scared to death . My kids could have welded better than him ! I took a day and repaired it correctly for him .He was like it held , no big deal !

    Hello,

The ***umption of a 1932 grill shell on a Model A Coupe/Roadster/Truck or RPU is the standard custom look is overrated. It is too bulky, does not have a good proportion to the original hood/shell and body style. If someone cut and modified the 32 grille, it still would look too out of proportion.

So, the above roadster has the best idea to keep a total body color going for style or even if it had the chrome version, it would be 10x better than a 32 grille of any kind, color, or cut down version. It just fits as it should and looks great.

This roadster fit all parameters of a nice design and look of a Model A Roadster.

Smooth flow design headers, slight rake stance, simple red color on steel rims, and a stylish grille…YRMV

I could see this black Model A roadster as a daily driver for my wife and me. Riding around So Cal coastal areas with the breeze blowing in our faces... An open roadster, built just right... in "the warm California sun..."
