I'm still not sure what retirement is like.....I work 7 days a week 14 hour days. Dr. Dave, hurry up and we can all hang out. I heard about a sale on knee socks and velcro shoes.
Elvis has left the building!!! Today was my last day of a 34 year stint, which involved showing up this morning to turn in my truck, laptop and cell. I walked out with a few family pics and my 1991 hard hat from my desk to a life of making my own schedule. No phone calls, texts, emails, meetings, deadlines, metrics, etc! It's been pure hell for the last 3 years since surviving a reorg that had me reapplying/interviewing for (and ultimately being "re-offered") a position I had held for almost 30 years. An insult for sure, but I had to eat it as my Daughter had 3 years of college remaining. She graduated last month. Now I've graduated. I have to move her, then finish up roofing my house (before it's triple digit heat) and a few neglected items around the property I just never seemed to have time for. Spend some quality time with the wife and then maybe I can get in some garage time. This weekend is a triple crown; retirement, Father's day and my birthday. Chris, your shop thread plus the fact that three of my neighbors have stood up 1500+' shops in the last 6 months Really has me Jones n' for a shop. Maybe in the near future....
Congrats my friend. I still wake up at 4 every morning, but I have coaxed myself into going back to sleep for another 2 hours, but I’m up by 6:30 working….usually til 9 pm. I keep hoping that it will slow down and I can enjoy retirement, but so far it seems just like I’m working OT. With that said, I can’t imagine how long it would take,if I had tried to do this while working.
I retired last August. Spent a few weeks doing nothing then got another job with a small company. My boss is a asshole. 7 day work weeks...10-12 hour days are the norm though 14-16 days are sometimes in order with no overtime. No vacation pay and no benefit package. Pay is lousy. I should mention I am self employed and a 1 person company
