Yes they were, the heim joints were tapped off with heat resistance tape for powder coating. At least that's what my brother-in-law told me, he was the one who did the powder coating.

Thanks...I had to paint the bracket that it mounted too on the diff, and wasn't dry yet when I took the pic...but should be installed tomorrow.

I hope heim is ok. Believe they have plastic or rubber in them & I do not know how/or if heat of powder coating would affect them. Of coarse do not know how hot that treatment may be. I could be all wrong about this hope they last forever. Maybe a heim expert will speak up - I hope.

Yes, my heims have a composite in them, not sure if it's plastic. I inspected them pretty thorough and the composite is still intact and the sperical joint is still tight. On your note I'll be sure to keep an eye on them. Before I retired, I had some dealings with composite bearings and some are designed for high heat, but that's not to say these are designed for that.

    Thanks for the heads up...

A little update on the 33. The little mouse motor didn't survive the initial start up, so back to rebuild #2

Yeah...I felt like I might have cut some corners I shouldn't have and it cost me.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the engine but it's just a bump in the road, we've all been there at one point or another. I can remember when I got two whole weeks out of a motor before it spun a rod bearing.
Keep at it, you'll get there!

With some modification the alternator bracket is mounted to the top of the motor.
The outer mounting ear/tab had to be moved out to get the pully grooves to line up.
    IMG_4839.JPG

Then I had to notch the intake manifold so the alternator would be able to get full range of motion.
    IMG_4841.JPG

And lastly waiting for the new drive belt.

Looks good, I'll probably have to do something similar if I ever decide to put the hood on mine.

Great project @mixerman ,just went through the whole thread and I like your approach. From clamping down the suspension to achieve ride height to using PVC and 2x4s to get something mocked up. I learned alot, thank you

Engine is in the chassis and waiting on a fan belt and a 3/8" tube spacer to finish up
the idler pully for the crank and water pump pullies.

Washers mocked up to get spacer length.
    IMG_4858.JPG

I chose to start up in the frame with the exhaust hooked up, so to better hear engine noise.

My rat nest of wires for all of the gauges.

Everything I'm watching on start up.

Its been awhile since my last update, so here goes.

After getting the doors mounted and the door latches worked out, I finally got around to working
on the door gaps. I don't have a before, but they were really bad, and they aren't perfect.

    Driver's side
    IMG_4863.JPG

Passenger side was really bad. The gap between the bottom front body panel and the door was at least a 1/2" and a lot of metal had to be added, as by all of the shinny metal.

Finished one more task on the 33.

The sealed battery box in the trunk area all mounted.
    IMG_4874.JPG

The previous owner do do this right and installed all plastic romex tube all the way from the trunk to the front firewall, low chance of a arc out on the inside of the body.
    IMG_4875.JPG

Here is the tube running just passed the trunk area going thru the pass side floor rocker panel.
    IMG_4877.JPG

    IMG_4876.JPG

Here it exits out of the rocker panel thru to the firewall.

Not much done to the 33, for I've been on lite duty for the last month. The battery box in the trunk has been put on hold, so this gave me time to study up on the edelbrock carburetor. From what I've read this carb doesn't like anything over 5 to 6 psi fuel pressure, and my machinal pump was putting out between 9 to 11 psi. Well now to install a FPR and a inline fuel filter between the pump and the FPR.

I went with a electric fuel pressure gauge so I could read it inside the cab. The directions said to put the FPR as close to the carb as possible, I hope it's close enough.

I also put another fuel filter before the fuel pump

After getting the fuel line assembled I desided to pressure test the section from the pump to the carb for leaks.
    (8 psi)
I'm glad I did, two seperate fitting were leaking. (before)

    No leaks (After)

Finished up the trunk mounted battery box today.

Got the battery cable disconnect installed, along with the vent tube.

After mapping out every position under then dash for the fuse panel, I finally come to this location that allows for each harness to reach its final junction.

I plan on using 3M's panel bonding 08115 to attach the mounting bracket for the fuse panel to the firewall. Right now it's just mocked up in that position and my brackets to put pressure on the glued joints. Still waiting for the glue to be delivered.

Fuse panel is now bonded into the top of the firewall, along with my make shift clamping fixture.
    IMG_4911.JPG

As hard as I tried pulling on the fuse panel mounting bracket, I couldn't pull it off.
    IMG_4912.JPG

Now I need to make harness clips to bond to the upper cowl to keep each individual harness up and out of the way.
