    Does anyone know if a 62 Tbird with a 390 has a c6 transmission or would it be a cruise a matic ? I have a chance at a 62 with a running 390, c6 and 9 inch rear end for a reasonable fee. I need a c6 and a 9 inch for my 64 Galaxie plus a running 390 is a huge thing for me.

    Thanks

The C6 came out in 66 I believe. So if it’s stock it’s the old MX. A 9” would have been standard, as would the 390. Now, who knows what’s in there.

a little hint: C6 literally means 1966. The first year that transmission was used was used. The C4 was first used in 1964

The transmission in the Tbird would be pretty close to what you need for the Galaxie, they didn't have the C6 transmission originally, either. Not until 1966 :)

beware they used funky throttle/kickdown linkage in the Tbird in 62.

A C6 would have the casted on bell housing, the mx style would have a bell housing that will unbolt from the trans case. Just jack it up and look. Plus the C6 is all aluminum, the mx has a cast iron trans case.

Some of early FMX normally take off in second also as best as I recall . You must put it in “ L” to take of in 1st gear . It tore one down after rebuild 3x only to determine nothing was wrong .

Green dot Cruise-O……there’s a 1962 medium case in our 56 Victoria. Built and installed by Art Carr in Huntington Beach. IMG_3339.jpeg
