I am going to build my own rod, but I will have my baby brother helping out because he wants to learn.

Old Beet, yer full of shit. I saw your stuff in your posts and I know you farmed everything out. You're just an old coot who pays off everyone to do your dirty work. You may as well hang that gold chain on now before someone else calls it. What was that about the 22's you are thinking about going with? LOL....

I do everything I can, and if I had more equipment I'd do more...I'd like to try my hand at upholstery and paint next...I'm not scared of learning, because if you don't try and learn you'll never know what you're capable of...

    Give em hell OldBeet.

    I do most everything myself.

Thats why I've been a pedestrian all summer...and all my junk is broke down. :D

It stays broke till I learn how to fix it.

  8. Oldbeet. Do you mean build or assemble? There is a BIG difference.

I wasted my youth learning to read and write (spell). So I have to get a little help welding now and again. But I get them done the way I want and I have at least as much fun as you and probably remember it in the morning. Keep truckin' grandpa!

Paint (sometimes), upolstery, never (although I did buy Hatch's industrial sewing machine), Most everythng else I muddle through including engine prep (no crank grinder ,damnit. but I do valve jobs, suface heads. degrease blocks, install cam bearings, cc heads, degree cams and assembly work). Also do ALL of my fabrication work. After all it was my livelihood for over 25 years and have everything to accomplish any kind of metal fab.

I do all my own work. If I cant do it, it doesn't get done. Which is why my trucks don't have nice paint jobs. I painted my dad's utility trailer and it came out awful. I can weld and do the chassis work and build an engine, but don't put a paint gun in hand. I almost blow up my paint gun with to much air pressure! A real good question is how many work by your self. I built a fixture that fits in truck beds so I can take one off with my engine hoist. And I'm the guy my friend goes to for welding. So far my welding is on his floor pans and his e-bay bought 1960's traction bars.

I'm not scared, I never claim to be the "Super Mega Car Guy", I just love old cars. I have my buddies help me and I have no problem helping them, that's what pals do. I have learned alot more shit in the past couple of years, my welding is getting better and I'm not as scared to take cut into a body or frame.

My buddy that likes to do everything himself built a pretty nice chevy and I use to talk his car up along with his work. The problem was he liked to talk it up even more. So when he noticed and ask how come I quit braggin about his work I told him he "Patted himself on the back" enough for both of us. I think you steal some of your own reward in the hard work you put into something when you have to brag about it yourself.

I try to, but just don't know enough yet, so I ain't afraid to ask for help and learning, (I.E. my roof chop). One day I will, So far I have done most everything by me lonesome. Even managed to remove the body on my shoebox alone, amazing what ya can do with some stands, and I-beams. So I am getting there, it's just too f&^$^&*&^ing fun not to.
