Hot Rods New deuce Vicky owner

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by deucepickup32, Mar 24, 2024.

  1. Today’s job was to fix the start issue when hot. Common complaint I read about the Edelbrock carbs were the heat sync issues. I installed a pair of carb spacers this afternoon and so far it seems to have solved the problem. Also seem to notice that the carbs are more responsive as well. IMG_9888.jpeg

Seems you have the paint colour matching down pat, so now time to fix the windshield slide mounting brackets so they align properly. And then you can paint to hide the repair. :p:p:p
PO should have had his metal guy ‘fix’ it during the chop/build. It is possible the chopper didn’t have a/the windshield frame, so some quarter given. :):):)
Just one of those little details that jerks like me notice, but with these hot rods it’s all about the details.

  3. Never noticed that and thanks, learning something everyday. So where should it be repositioned to ?

First up, the slide arms on cars are usually down and pickups are up. Pick Up….get it? That’s how my little pea brain works to remember, haha.
I find that when we chop a little harder, that flipping the slides up works better.
First pic I stole from the web and the second pic is my Tudor.
    Hope these help.

Please note that you’ll want to consider having the windshield mount below half way down the frame (like mine versus the green car).
I feel that you get a better pull on the windshield to help with the seal that way.
Higher up like green car pic scares me a bit for the pressure it may put on the glass.
    Cheers.

When you see all the chopped deuces in Victoria, I bet you won’t see too many ‘adjusted’ windshield slide mounts. Most will be like yours, or at least that’s what I’ve seen in the past.

  8. Relocated the front carb linkage to the proper location as shown.
The way it was positioned would not allow wot on the front carb, not that it needs it as the car is scary fast as it was.

  9. IMG_9944.jpeg IMG_9945.jpeg IMG_9946.jpeg Today’s job was to replace the straight cut gears with helical in the Winters qc. Fairly easy and checked and rechecked shim tolerances. Noticeable improvement on the sound level. Can always switch back if I need to and maybe the next caretaker may need the noise.

  10. Scored the nailhead spark plug wire covers today for the Vicky.
I will have them chromed after Deuce Days in Victoria

  11. IMG_0033.jpeg I picked up a pair of covers today at a local scrap yard thinking I would paint everything Buick green.
Initial thought was to chrome the plug covers but suspect the cost might be out of my measly budget. I do have one that was previously chromed but it’s showing lots of wear.
Also got a quote on powder coating the painted valve and plug covers the same as the headers but think it would be too busy.

  12. Green powder coat would be nice?

You would be lucky to find a powder-coater with the correct color. Why not buy the correct paint from Bill Hirsch and paint them. I'm not sure but I don't think the Buick green is the correct color for 401's anyway.

Actually, FLAT White paint is the preferred finish.
I worked for a gaming machine manufacturer and all of our lighting reflectors were painted FLAT White, we tried gloss but it wasn't as vibrant as FLAT White.

  16. Well after many hours of pondering what to do, dropped them off at a Victoria Plating this morning in Victoria BC on Vancouver Island. Should have them back in time for Deuce Days and now need to fab up some support brackets to secure them as the 401 never had them.
