I've heard of those, they're called 'tweels' or something simmilar. Supposedly their biggest advantage is that you can get a better handling tire without sacrificing ride comfort. Also they're damn near indestructable. I hope when they finally make it into m*** production they put some sort of sidewall on them, even just a layer of rubber to hide the spokes.

I can't imagine they balance very well once dirt, snow, leaves, roadkill get inside.

Seems like mud, slush and snow would pack in those opening pretty easy - really hard to keep 'em balanced.

  10. If they ever make it into production, the sides won't be exposed like that. Just like the exp. cars, nothing is ever exactly like the floor model.

They leave the side open to show you the tech. behind it, production tires will have sidewalls for 2 reasons, protection from stuff getting in there and creating an out of balance problem and the other being.....it's too wierd looking for people to buy. People will embrace the new tech. and safety features, but won't over-come how bizare they look.

I would not buy something like that unless the sidewall was sealed, and it had some sort of hubcap/wheelcover on it. If they were affordable and outlasted traditional pneumatic tires, and were stronger, perhaps.

but just wait and see how much they cost....

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

agreed, in our area, the sidewalls would become packed with snow, dirt, rocks- not a good idea

they carry no air, so would be indestructable- much to the glee of criminals, who could drive over police nail strips and treadles and keep right on going....

should lead to some very interesting car chase TV shows afterwards...

"criminal continued to drive 200 miles, after all 4 tires were shot out by SWAT team- until car finally ran out of gas"...

These show up here every so often. Good idea, but the packaging will most definately have to be changed. It would be nice to never have to worry about blowouts again. Depending on how they finally look, i'd love to have a set.

I imagine that they could put those out with a sidewall on them.

I've seen the ones with closed cell foam being tested for police vehicles.
Pretty cool. They looked just like regular tires...

It's bad business to make indestructible products. What salesman ever wants to only sell just one?

Think about beds. They are basically foam, coat hangers and kindling. But you don't buy one every year, do you? Therefore you are going to pay a lot up front!

I bet they either cost a ton, or they still can wear out like normal tires.
