Hi All, been reading the forum regarding '32 Ford firewalls. (What Ford referred to as the "Dash"

The seal, as I understand it should be UNDER the cowl lip?

My '32 pickup seems a little odd, looking at the firewall with the lood open I see the band the hood rests against when closed, then just forward of that is the rubber seal, then the metal lip.

The firewall does not have the feel on it, and it appears to have been modified to some extent.

I'll grab some pics and post but I am heading out of town for a couple of days. I'll grab pics and post later.

An L shaped rubber seal goes between the body and the firewall. When assembled, only a 1/8” bit is seen. The hood rests on the woven fiber rope like bead that sits in the most forward groove of the firewall.

It looks like a little more than 1/8".. closer to 3/8-1/2" (unless I am blind)

Along with that I noted that the motor mounts look like they were modified, taking about a 1/4" off the rear and adding a spacer of equal length.

(In other words, the engine was moved forward to clear the firewall) or someone put the mounts in the wrong place....

I'm wondering if the firewall positioning is causing all of this...

Here’s a photo of the firewall seal (at the red arrow) in its position, the shallow trough at the front is where the hood lacing goes.

Some reproduction seals have a heavy taper molded on them that may need sanding to fit properly.

I was wrong, about 3/16”. Excuse the red paint on the original rubber.

Thanks all for the pics and input...

I think I am going to wind up changing the firewall at some point. there is a forward kick out on the drivers side near the steering column that doesn't seem to need to be there.

That kickout is for foot clearance on clutch pedal. The early (like mine) firewall didn't have that kickout.
