Sorry that one hits too close to home be amusing or funny. I can see the tunnel at the end of my light and there is an unfinished roadster in the shop.  :D

Well, I did have to bring my roadster project home from a friend's shop when he died. Maybe the Reaper thought it was his. I have it scattered & covered just in case. I'm only 80 so I still have plenty of time! :)

I built (really, just assembled) my 49 Dodge truck, it came as a bare shell on the original bent frame, with a Dakota 4x4 chassis and a state of MO issued Title.
The project consisted of using parts from 3 donors, pretty much fitting everything together, and assembling it. Once it was a running truck, (I drove it through the winter before) I performed body work on it, and my buddy sprayed the paint on it for me.

My out of pocket expenses were pretty close to 10G (in 2021 - 2022 money, I'd just sold a truck and had cash and was saving some up per month). It took me 11 months to build the truck (from the date I first dissembled the first donor until the truck was plated and insured). The truck was built (assembled) in my well equipped, but then, closed welding shop (shortly after I retired). I loosely tracked the hours invested (a habit of owning a business). The time was loosely 5-6 days a week, 6-10 hours a day for 11 months, with just a basic interior of a seat (straight from one of the donors) and door panels (marine vinyl glued 1/4" particle board). The hour count for the fully functioning truck (with brushed on red oxide primmer) was roughly 2088 hours, before anything more then just be needed basic welding patches, or any body or paint work (other then the brushed on primer to protect the bare steel).

My point is, I have had a lot of guys that want me to build a car or truck for them. I tell them my shop rate was $100/hour x 2088 hours, + 10 G for parts up front, without any unneeded body and no paint work. When do they want me to start.
That cost ($218,800 if you couldn't figure it out) was just to fit the parts together, assemble it, and make it run, and move. Nothing fancy, nothing cutting edge, nothing exotic, or nothing really show quality. It will be a safe to drive vehicle with good brakes, good suspension, good glass (not installed by me), and should be a great driver.

Having a dream is good. Not many have the ability to actually produce a running, moving vehicle. Many of those dreams are for that perfect car they saw in a magazine or at a show. That added an entirely different level to anything I can (or want) to do. Its not hard to see why many of those hot rod dreams just slip away.

Those old Dodges were good trucks just as they were. Like most old pickups they might have a hard time keeping up with modern traffic and maybe stopping in modern traffic conditions. That one looks great.

That valve head bounced around in that cylinder for a while! I'm surprised it didn't blow through the top of the piston, must have been a pretty tough piston...

Probably not too long. Remember 6,000 rpm is 100 per second. But I would like to see the piston.

I push a button on the dash in our 2018 F-150 to disable the auto start every time I get in. I could jumper it but don’t want to.

When my aunt was not happy wirth the '55 Chevy 235/auto or the '56 4door 265/stick with a dealer performance option replacement my uncle bought for her. So he got her a '58 Merc wagon with the 430 Super Marauder. She was a terror!

Game Wardens are the scariest cops. They show up when you think you are alone in the woods and there seems to be no limit to their authority. The only thing close is a Texas Ranger.

A buddy of mine was on a cycling trip up the west coast, pulled off the road for the night and pitched his tent near the stream, grabbed his collapsible pole and caught his dinner. Warden must have smelled his fire and came to "serve and protect". When the Warden learned my friend did not have an Oregon fishing license he wrote him a steep ticket, seized all of his fishing equipment and took the fish! :eek:o_O

In actual practice there really isn't any "state" departments of wildlife. They feed off of each other and regulations from the most anti hunting & fishing states eventually find their way to the rest. Wildlife management folks move up the career ladder by changing states. In Nevada if you break a regulation they can confiscate EVERYTHING you used to do it. If you are lucky they leave your boxers. So far I haven't personally had a problem. By the way a "regulation" is a rule made up by a bureaucrat without a vote of legislators that carries the force of a law. Oh well we're just a bunch of car geeks we don't have to worry about silly regulations.

I have a pal who went 'dynamite-fish'in' a few years back ! His cousin Utsey was "fish'in" and my pal was driving the john boat.
Game warden saw them when they came-to-the-hill to un-load. "You boys do any good?"..he asked.
"Yes sir...pretty good..(they had the cooler almost half full)
"Oh yeah he sez.......What cha'all using for bait?"
    "minnows" they said
"Hummmm..what cha'all using for POLES?" the game warden asked !
    They lost the boat....the trailer...the TRUCK...and a heffty fine.
My buddy said the worst part was telling his Dad about HIS boat/trailer/and truck !!!
    True story (according to him)
