I noticed my link quit working a couple of days ago. Fortunately, I was able to save a few articles. Hopefully, the archives will be made available to the magazine subscribers in the near future.
Unless HRM reinvents or adapts itself, I don't think it'll be around in 4-5 years. Consumers are consuming information differently and have been for years. The magazines have failed because they have failed to adapt. HRM needs to meet the reader where they are. They can reach a bigger audience if they focus on delivering content the reader wants. Occasional printed media has a place, but most people want digital access that they can search and find the old articles and the new articles they are interested in. I found the archive to be very clunky, hard to find what I was looking for and reading the scanned magazines of old was, to be honest, a shitty user experience. The scans were high quality though.
If you have a smartphone, the Motor Trend App still allows you to access back issues of many titles including HRM, just not the last couple years of it.
would like some coaching on navigating to the archives--just d/l the app and can only get as far as a few issues of mt mags no mention of hrm--thanks !
Hope this helps! Click on Magazines (circled in bottom right in first image), then on Hot Rod click on View All. Since they haven't really been updating HRM on the app I'm not sure it will work for everyone or if they'll get rid of it soon.
no matter what i click, never get to THAT page bottom -tried search, explore , archives .,etc.--but thanks!
I wish it’s like $40 a month but it includes extra storage in the cloud, unlimited music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, and access to over 1000 magazines and news. I bookmarked Hot Rod, National Geographic, Consumer Reports,, and a few others that I read regularly.
just to try it, I downloaded the MT app on an older phone I have, Nexus 5 from 2014. This is an Android phone, not an iphone. It works, I can see the "magazines" tab at the bottom, and the "see all" link that lets me see all the old content.
ok-will just keep trying,as i'm sure there's some little 'click' i'm missing--kind of same as last time i 'lost it'--thanks for this little nudge jim!!
It might be that the iphone app does not behave the same as the Android app, on older versions of the iphone. In the realm of phones, an iphone 8 it like a stock Model A. It's ancient.
I'm sure it won't happen but I wish they'd sell a copy of the HRM archives on CD-ROM (or some other format.) I know some other magazines have done it before. For that matter, there are some magazines available online at Google Books - Popular Mechanics and Popular Science are the best examples, they have every issue going back to Volume 1, Issue 1 for both mags.
I’m surprised that the archive didn’t go to Hearst with the magazine. In fact, it might have. If that’s the case, then we are in an interim period while the two companies sort out the transition. Save anything you might need later. Access to these may disappear behind a paywall or simply disappear.
crazy part of is that no way can i get that 'magazines' icon to show up when i sign in to the site on my win 11 pc--and that is where i always would 'read' the old mags.--!!
Build yourself a collection of paper copies. They are realatively cheap, fun to search for, and ya don't need no app to view them. And it's traditional!
It did. As I understand it, all the intellectual property associated with the magazines and the video shows went to Hearst, including the magazine archives.
