I was under the thought that that spring was to keep that bar from rattling nothing more.

 

Thanks that’s what I thought but was/am unsure. I can’t find one for my application, I think what I made up will work and appears to function properly.

Bouncing between fabbing the intake/exhaust adapter for the Hilborn unit for the Dragmaster Dart Six project and bringing the 53 F-100 back to life after its 15 year nap.

 

Haven't visited this thread or posted my work here in a couple months. My dad p***ed away in April and a few weeks ago, we finally celebrated his life and gave him his send off. My brother in law, cousin, and I took my dad for his final ride (well...his cardboard cutout anyway). Here's some pics and a link to watch the old man's final burnout...

It always does a heart good to give Pop's a PROPER send off.

 

Voltage regulator quit on the Fargo, found out when it wouldn’t start outside my kids school this morning, it’s a half hour home so my wife brought booster cables, I stopped and bought a battery and drove home like this. The battery is under the floor, the cables are on the starter post.

Drew out some numbers for a friend's T/A banger racer project.
PVC pipe & a spray bomb cap for radius. Radii? The round parts.

Finished lay out in chalk. Look close, you can see where I moved the 1 closer to the 0 from my first attempt.

Had the wife hand paint them, as her hand is probably a little steadier. Used some old white urethane that probably should have been thrown out. Added a little enamel reducer to thin it. Waiting for it to dry to wipe off the chalk and see if it needs any touch up, but I'm sure it's good enough.

I did the hand painted skinny numbers thinking it would look more era correct than taped off lines & fatter numbers. The owner (friend) & builder (brother) seem happy with it.

I got the mystery motor fired up, no noises and no smoke to my surprise. I figured it had a million miles with a rattle can rebuild and some new gaskets, but it seems good to go as a backup motor if I ever need it for something.



Also ran the 41 down to the gas station for the first time since all the changes, it only got up to 180 while sitting in traffic, which I'm very pleased with. The 27.5 gallons should get me the 2 miles back home.

Got the new windscreen frame and new gl*** in some time ago, but only just started to drive it again.
Needs a few more things tidied up…….

 

I just finished tuning this.

I intentionally took it over all the hills, and in heavy stop-and-go city traffic.

It's ready to go home!

I only have about 50% of the movement back in my right hand. That might be all I get.

I'm making the best of it.

 

I can't remember if you ever mentioned whether they caught and charged the guy or not. I sure hope so.....

 

I built this bandsaw about 30 yrs ago to cut metal by using two 1/4 hp furnace blower motors, one down below as the main driver and one above as a jackshaft to slow it down enough. It has worked well and I've cut thousands of inches of steel with it from sheet metal to 3/8" cold rolled. I could roll the bottom belt off and drive with the upper motor for cutting wood, but it ran too fast and had a lot of vibration.
My son, who works on and sets up gym equipment, gave me a treadmill motor and I just got done refitting it on the saw with the motor, a variable speed drive and a pillow block jackshaft. It should work better. So far I've only cut the piece of 1/8" to make the bracket for the drive, but I think it works better.

I never liked those dainty nuts that come with these toggle switches so I whittled up my own from some stainless steel hex stock. I added a little shoulder to locate it more securely in the dash.

 

Did that start life as a store-bought nut that you modified on a lathe?

OR did you manufacture it from scratch?

 

Excellent question. I edited my post to clarify I made them from scratch and add a picture of the part in progress. When I bought the switches I actually ordered the ‘thicker style’ knurled nuts, which were a disappointment. I did find standard ones but they were pricey and would still need some machine work. I don’t remember seeing too many options for a 15/32-32 thread nut lol.

I searched for my exhaust knock at idle, you'd think a solid mounted engine wouldn't have a whole lot of movement to it, but there's enough.
