A boat with twin Miller 16 cylinders in it is just insane.

Great machines, I want to hear the sound made by the twin Millers. Anybody have a post of them alive? Thanks for the pictures.

Great pictures of the event. There were a total of 40 entries, I believe the newer rear engine cars were not in that number.
The Me*** owned Miller V16 boat did run but only one engine fired. I heard it from a distance but did not actually see it happen.
Here are a few pictures I took at the event, note the scale model of the #5 Leader Card Special.

I was there Friday as well, met @milwscruffy and we spent some time talking about the Miller era and racing in general. I’ve attended the MM over the years when I could make it, but didn’t go last year. Friday I was talking to a guy with the 1932 Indy 500 Studebaker Special. I mentioned that the MM is somehow losing its distinctiveness by allowing late ‘60’s Indy roadsters and even ‘70’s rear engined Offy powered cars. Yes, the lineage is there- Miller, Offenhauser, Meyer-Drake and finally Drake, but to me the Golden Age was to 1955 or so. Purist? Snob? No, probably just an old crank.
When I mentioned Bob McConnell (a**** some other prior attendees) wasn’t there with his fabulous collection he told me a lot of owners went to Clermont, IN, where there was a similar event being held at IRP the same weekend. It’s a bit more of a ride but I might try that event next year.
My photo array isn’t as extensive as @milwscruffy posted but here it is.
The Studebaker Spl. is owned by the brother of the guy I talked to, they came out from So California

The Hinkle Special was an early ‘50’s car

This is the car entered by Russell Snowberger in the 1932 500, Huppmobile sponsored the car, and Snowberger made extensive modifications to the engine.

Here’s a ‘35 Miller Ford heading out for a few laps around the Milwaukee Mile

Some details on the Miller Ford, those beautiful header castings ought to be reproduced! That’s the steering box at the red arrow, the box was fine, it was a u-joint on the steering shaft that the header cooked the grease out of and pulled the Fords that qualified out of the race.

Here’s a Ford B block with a Miller OHV Hi Speed head, later it was the Miller-Schofield and then the Cragar head.

This next one was especially cool with it’s straight eight Buick power, I should have taken a long shot of the car :(

OK, after my rant about “late models” at the show here’s a 1963 Indy entrant, but it was a DNQ. Joe Lencki went to Fred Offenhauser in 1938 and with some of his own ideas Joe had Leo Goossen do the final engineering and design work on his Lencki 6. Joe was irascible and hated it ever being called a six cylinder Offy. Over the years Lencki entered cars, sometimes with his six which first ran in 1939 and often with a four cylinder entry. Imagine today trying to enter Indy with a twenty-four year old engine!

Sorry we did not meet on Friday, I was there most of the day.
I am friends with the president of the H. Miller club, he told me two weeks ago that there was another event at IRP and the numbers for the Milwaukee event were down. When Dana Me*** became aware of the loss of entries he entered 13 cars instead of his normal 6, plus the motorcycle and boat. That was not the reason for the newer cars, the club decided a while ago to open the event to certain cars but they had to be authentic, not recreations.
The Fireball Special was featured in this morning’s Barn Finds. https://barnfinds.com/vintage-visio...tm_medium=email&utm_source=Newsletter+(Daily)

I had thought about posting that I was there, now I’m sorry I didn’t @kabinenroller , I could have met you and maybe even some others as well. Thanks for that explanation on the entries, it’s a shame that whoever put on the IRP event stepped on the Miller club which has a thirty year history.
I imagine there must have been other dates available.

Thanks to everyone for the great photos and write ups. I usually go on Sat. later morning/early afternoon. I did the same this year and there were many race cars that had already loaded up and headed out. It is always a great event and hope there is no conflict with another event next year. Thanks again for all the coverage

that's a great bunch of cars. :) I'm surprised we don't see cars built like some of those for the street.
