So what does everyone think about this idea? I have a chevy 6 inch drop axle. I got a sleeve and spacer made so the axle end is the same size as my plymouth end. Any reason I shouldn't install my plymouth spindle on this ?
If the camber angles are the same you’re good But using a gm spindle and changing the bolt pattern isn’t difficult
Yes, extremely close. I was going to go all gm but I wasn't sure about the steering arm. Figured I get the sleeves made by a friend for free and at least give it a try. Trying to save money where I can.
I got my front end mocked up. I need to weld the leaf spring pads to the axle still. My king pins fit great. I pulled the 2nd and 4th leaf from the bottom and dropped the motor in to get an idea of ride height. Chevy 6 inch drop axle sleeved for plymouth spindle.
It looks like it's camera angle, but that looks like the top of the tire is kicked out. Of course, the top of the engine looks kicked out the other way, so that's why I started with that.
I just went and checked with my super sophisticated method. Is this good enough? I would****ume it is but then again im learning as i go from all of you.
Good enough for a roller! I kind of figured it was close, but the pic didn't help. If anyone is annoyed by a tenth of a degree, they can chip in for the axle bend at the alignment shop!
Alright, I finally see light at the end of the tunnel on the rear trailing arms. I decided to go with c10 arms and make new holes for the u bolt. I cut a tube in half so the arms are still like the original. Doing this has really slowed me down and taken more time then it should have. I installed a crossmember with some reinforcement pads at the ends. I didnt go all the way across the frame but if I should, just let me know. Next is airbag mounts and the tabs for the front of the truck arms. I should pick up speed after that.
Made some progress this labor day, and boy did I labor on this 100 degree day. Nothing fancy here. Still need to add the pan hard bar. If you see something I should change or add please let me know.
I got the engine and t5 transmission in. Installed new head gasket and new gaskets all around. Im going with a spare carter yf carb i had laying around. Converted to 12v negative ground. I got the engine to run for about 10 seconds by filling the bowl with fuel. I need to add a fuel cell in the trunk. I installed new rubber body mounts. Pertronix ignition should come in the mail anyway, im gonna ditch the points ignition i think. I just started looking at the brakes tonight. My goal is to drive it about 2 miles around dec 1st to get my Christmas tree with it. Gonna full speed for the new few weeks.
