Good Guy's Des Moines Next Weekend 4th of July Roll Call......

IMPORTANT: NEED TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THURSDAY REGISTRATION DAY SO NO SURPRISES.

Thursday Registration come early as possible to get your Good Guy's Registration done as the President is coming to the Fairgrounds late Thursday afternoon / early evening so traffic is going to be very heavy with thousands of People for that coming early.

Possibly including Protestors and best to just ignore.
I'm sure there will be a large Police presence as well as Federal Security at various Fairgrounds locations.

Good Guy's Registration is open Thursday from 9AM to 6PM at the Southwest part of the Fairgrounds.
LOOK FOR GATE 9 ON THE MAP BELOW.
Suggest if you can come from the south.

If you come from the West , North or East, and get off from 1-235 onto E University towards the Fairgrounds or from Hwy 65 at Pleasant Hill onto E University to the west towards the Fairgrounds , traffic will be seriously backed up on
E University from Mid- Afternoon both East and West on E University Ave to get into Gates 1, 2

Best to find your way to the south to get to Dean Avenue,

Or - from the East BEFORE you get to the Fairgrounds - turn south in Pleasant Hill and find your way to Dean Ave and head west to the Fairgrounds.

Same if you are coming from the West - off Des Moines I 235 Fairgrounds exit turn south on a street or two along there and find your way to Dean Ave.

Des Moines is to the Left of this MAP Below

Pleasant Hill is to the Right of this MAP Below

    Good LUCK !

Weird that they would double book the fair grounds for two different three day events. Thanks for the heads up.

    CLARIFYING your post.

The President is only Thursday night only, not 3 days. Thursday afternoon could get hectic.

Good Guy’s Thursday Registration is from 9-6.

The Good Guys show is Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the normal ( if you’ve been here before ) Gate 1 entry staging during the middle of the night.

People have been known starting at 2 AM show up staging.
    Nuts so early.

Oh, I must have misread the article I saw. It made it sound like there was a seperate three day event he was apart of.

My son, a friend, and I will be down on Saturday as spectators only. Buddy was thrashing on his very slightly OT Biscayne to make the trip, but we agreed that a 4 hour one way drive is probably not a good test drive.

Thanks for the heads up. We will be arriving around four on Thursday and normally head to registration. Be a sorry deal if we have to wait until Friday morning to register. Isn’t Thursday registration usually open till 6?

Yes, Registration is from 9AM until 6PM but expect traffic back ups / delays from Mid Afternoon on.

Thousands of people are coming to the Presidents 250th Nation Birthday kick off.

Even though the President will be in another section of the Fairgrounds, traffic on
E University will be very busy and probably backed up.

Read my list with MAP above before getting close to the Fairgrounds by going south to get to Dean Ave to Gate 9.

    Good luck.

It's crazy how fast it fills up now! I used to easily get a spot in the grass south of the admin building showing up Friday at 8. Last year I showed up at 7:30 and ended up in the east amphitheater north of pioneer hall. I'll bet it's a madhouse with all the early folks fighting to get a spot on Grand when the gates first open.

Dan, how long has it been since the purple coupe has been on this fairgrounds?

  16. Great question, had to think about it for a minute…

I drove it to DSM in 2006 for my dad’s memorial, then again in 2009 after the HAMB drags to work for my uncle for a couple weeks, but I don’t think it’s been at the fairgrounds since 1984 probably. We moved to Arizona in 1985.

I went there about 5-6 years ago, it was the wildest 4th of July of my life. Not the fairgrounds show, the neighbors around it. I had my little camper on a private lot near the fairgrounds, and about 10 blocks around me was a war zone that went on for hours. Next morning the streets could have been cleaned up with a snow plow. Some strong patriots there in Iowa

I don't want this post to drift off topic to Fireworks but now that Fireworks are legal in Iowa it’s a whole lot worse.
There’s a tent full of them for sale on darn near every Dollar General, Dollar Tree parking lots or any Off Brand Gas station lot or Odd Ball strip mall lot.

It’s sad for our Veteran’s with PTS and brutal for people with pets.

I’m all for patriotism and celebrating that evening for a short time at dark.
Just wish it wasn’t for days / weeks before and after Independence Day.

Good Guy's usually will have Fireworks either Friday or Saturday night.

    Quick visit……

  24. I don't think the fairgrounds had a choice about the Thursday situation. That decision came from above and was very late developing (as in last month).

The President is in town only Thursday evening. Traffic may get backed up on E University getting into Gate 1 and or 2 mid afternoon on, plus normal work quitting time.

The President gathering is on the North Side of the Fairgrounds.

Suggest my Map and alternative route to the Southwest side of the Fairgrounds to get to Good Guy Registration enter Gate 9 to help save you time.

Yeah, too many unfinished projects at home to be gone all weekend, but my YouTube channel demands more content to keep the algorithm happy, so hey 12 hours of driving for 6-8 hours at the show, why not? :)

Drink a lot of fluids on the way up as it is supposed to be in the lower to mid 90s with humidity.
Normal Fourth of July, hot and sticky.
