I’ll still be “working” a full day - eight hours, minimum. But my Hawaiian schedule is its own strange little masterpiece. I’m usually up by 4am, coffee in hand, poking around the HAMB before the world even thinks about waking up. Then it’s head down, grinding until lunch… which, thanks to the time shift, is already 5pm back in Texas. After that? I’m off. And it’s beaches, bitches. Sunburns and salt water and the sound of my own bad decisions rolling in with the tide. There are a hundred reasons I feel like I belong in Hawaii, and most of them aren’t fit for polite company. But one of ’em is this: I don’t stop thinking about cars. Ever. Doesn't matter where I am. Doesn’t matter if it’s the weekend, a holiday, or a funeral - I’ve got hot rods, customs, Porsches, Toyotas, EVs, that car in the front row at Walmart, etc... on my mind. There is no off. But Hawaii shifts the rhythm just enough to trick my brain. A different backdrop, a warped schedule, and suddenly that obsession feels fresh again. I don’t know if that makes any damn sense to anyone but me… but hell, it works.
" But Hawaii shifts the rhythm just enough to trick my brain. A different backdrop, a warped schedule, and suddenly that obsession feels fresh again. I don’t know if that makes any damn sense to anyone but me… but hell, it works." Changes now and then wake up the senses in many different ways. Sight, sound, smell, reflection, imagination..... That's good, important.
I loved my 3 years living on Oahu. A friend and I spent many Saturday nights at Hawaii Raceway Park. Until this film, I had no idea it was so new when I was going there 1967 through 1970. A short time during my military service in Hawaii, I worked in the flight line bench stock area. Nuts and bolts and such. There was a civilian who worked on base on the flight line. He would send in requisitions every day. He kept the bench stock room completely out of 5/8 and 3/4 Heim joints. I knew he had a dragster so I kept my mouth shut. Wish I could remember his name. My daily driver, 65 Sunbeam Tiger, ran low 15’s during those trips to the drag strip
I'm also in my 40s, and got no serious female ties here at home (I'm assuming you don't, with the beaches and bitches thing). Been to Hawaii on two separate occasions for a couple weeks each (was in Maui about a week before the fires happened, was sad to see the bars I had been in and made friends with the bartenders/waitresses burning to the ground)....it is an amazing reset....you damn near never see a clock, people just run on their own schedule. 15 minutes late? There's no such thing. Laaaaaaiiiiid back....enjoy your time away. I'm jealous.
I read it "I'm off to the beach, Bitches!" So yeah I do miss the unwind time at the beach. Last time I was between women and was in Ft. Lauderdale...watched late night movies, got up late, went for a swim before brunch and a beach stroll, a nap, then a dip before dinner, then a cocktail before deciding where to go for dinner then another dip in the pool and more late night tv/movies, rinse and repeat! Now that I'm retired it's easier to just slow down and chill. Enjoy your recharge time and stay safe!
If I’m reading this right, and I like to think that I am. Da Big Kahuna is off to the island to unwind and chill. While you’re there @Ryan put a pig in the ground, get some beer on ice and have all your rowdy friends come over tonight. Hehe.
Never been but have heard stories from my grandmother, who used the local greetings and Merry Christmas until she passed. While the focus is always on the beaches, remember it's very diverse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Hawaii I hesitate to even bring it up, but there is a car you spotted last year. I hope you can add more or come up with new amazing sightings.
