Well me and the wifie went back home to visit the whole fam damily (AZ NM area) while we were visiting my father in laws place in safford AZ danny (my in law ) took me around to pick up some parts for his sled he's rebuilding (he's a wallet builder...you know opens his wallet and the rod gets built) at least he likes old non stock ****...just doesnt like the building process (and has the money to pay others) we stopped by old man sorensens place in our travels (to pick up a banjo rear for one of his other projects) and I spotted this ol' wayward 47 sitting in a feild. me and the wifie have been talking about getting her a sled as a family car hot rod. I was stompin around the car and realized there was only two very small spots of rust, only one of which went all the way through. super solid, all stock but missing some stuff, Luckly the wife was with us and she fell in love with the car. I asked my F-in law if the old man wanted to sell and we started talkin shop with sorenson, he said his kids took it apart to turn it into a "dune buggy" and were going to take a torch to it next to trim off all the unwanted body off of it. I asked what he wanted for it, and he asked what I was going to do with it. I toldhim it would be fixed up and returned to the road (I omitted the fact it would be rodded) His reply, get it the heck out of here as long as it doesnt get turned into a dune buggy you can have it, he'd rather it be recycled than destroyed. we went back to the farm, picked up a trailer and collected the buick and parked it. I went through to eleminate the pack rat nests and clean out the interior as it will be sitting for another year until it goes whereever me and the wife go (in the process of getting a transfer but we dont know where yet so it's sitting on me fother in laws farm until we end up where ever we go) I thought I was missing the grill, engine components, fender skirts, radiator and a headlight ring (I didnt think that was too terribly bad) I tore into the pile of stuff in the interior and guess what I found....everything that was missing was found, including the skirts. I palletized everything, cleaned it up and there it sits awaiting the transport to its new life. Moral of the story, sometimes you just gotta be in the right place at the right time, I got it for free (did I mention it had the ***le?)

plans include a tasteful chop, deseam, smooth, lower, Power steering and disk brakes and a undetermined power train (seeing as its going to be the wifes I'm thinking something simple and reliable but havent figured out what yet). the inline 8 will be pulled and saved for a RPU project down the road. (I already started collecting engine parts)

The only question I have is the upcoming chop, I've chopped 5 vehicles in my time, none of which were a fast back....I'm looking for any ideas as far as the mechanics of the chop is concerned as to not ****** up the flow of the roof into the trunk.

I'll post more pics of feild finds in AZ as I get them resized

  3. Well how cool is that?

I am a firm believer that everyone should have at least one custom built car ( no necessarily a kustom) in their lifetime.

thanks for the links 51, I did a search a bit back and prob wasnt using the proper key words as all I got was stuff I had experience in....

ratmotor, nope no sister...sorry man, there aint too many like the one I got (though they are out there) I told her when she expressed interest in getting a car that she would be working on it, I wasnt going to do every bit of the work, she is already good at the tedious body work so thats a huge plus (I hate the fine bodywork, love the rough in....cant stand the fine tuning, though I do it cause I have too)

WOW, a 59 Edsel convertible! That's a diamond in the rough. That would be a great cruiser.

I grew up in Safford.....everything gets truned into "dune buggies" there.

I knew about that 47, i'll have to scratch it off my list of field cars i've located.
