Attempting to replace rear seal on my 66 F100 with 3 speed manual trans and the drive shaft refuses to come out. It comes back 1/4 inch and stops. I had it out recently when I replaced the clutch and no issues. Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Did a search for 66 3 speed trans and got this. I assume this is incorrect, and you have a conventional slip yoke?

Too much power made both a barber pole, a burr, or you just aren't stickin' yer tongue out right.

I'd try getting a big flat blade screwdriver, tucking it against the front of the driveshaft, behind the u-joint and tapping it lightly to see if it will ease out. Sometimes the vent gets plugged and a vacuum forms inside.

Is there any way a slide hammer could be rigged to a yoke, if you choose to connect to the rear one make sure to remove the two loose needle bearing caps.

Ratchet strap the yoke back to the rear of the frame. Put tension on it, hit the yoke with a hammer, more tension, repeat. Next time use more grease on the splines.

If it’s a good seal it could be vacuum holding it in. Mine does that once in awhile. I can pull the driveshaft out an inch but feel resistance, like wants to be sucked back in again and opposite when pushing it in, wants to pop back out again. Hard to believe isn’t it?
