Checking in for the seventh time this year...
IMG_7405.jpeg A friend of mine had copies of these pics when her grandad was home in '43.. not much info on the car or people unfortunately...

  4. What for head is that. Carbs are on one side then the other. At first I thought one photo was reversed but then you can see the steering on one but not the other. Also for that time period three carbs is rare. Cool find.

I think it is two different cars. Different tires, rear fender, different wind shield, different upholstery, front small hubcaps.

Get your banger on the road....Just did a 1900 mile round trip in the Vicky to attend @BigJoeArt open house. Zuzax, NM to Maryville, Missouri.
Lost a shock link on a launch off a railroad crossing in Auburn, Nebraska, on the trip there. The rotor on the dizzy fell apart in Fairbury, Nebraska. I had been running in the rain, just as it was letting up I got passed by an oncoming 18 wheeler that splashed rainwater all over the car...it sputtered and I feathered the throttle thinking the distributor had been drowned. I pulled into an empty parking lot of a vacant building and the engine died.
    The rain stopped...
Pulling the cap...that was full of moisture I saw where the twist pin that holds the center spring tab and 'pointer' had come up from being seated. The 'pointer' rotated and the spring tab was broken... Mallory YS distributor
Spare dizzy installed and on the road 15 minutes later....
How considerate for the Vicky to take me all the way thru the hard rain to an empty parking lot!!!
With the new dizzy timed the car pulls fantastic in 5th (the speedo is 6 mph slow) IMG_20250630_094116780_HDR.jpg IMG_20250629_081824992_HDR.jpg next trip, dirt drags, Box Elder South Dakota IMG_20250629_065408535.jpg

I repaired the rotor as to get a spare back in the car...
IMG_20250702_062852452_HDR.jpg I soldered the twist pin to affix it so it wouldn't turn and back out.
The back side of the tab had broken off so there was no way it would have stayed secured...
anyone got a lead on a spare rotor?
internet search hasn't turned anything up yet...

  15. The M & B heads appear to have inlet porting on both sides. Single carb feeding around the distributor drive must have been torturous?

Chrome Model "A" parts add in the thrifties lead Jon, Pat, and I to take a short trip across town to Bloomington Mn. Sitting on the ground next to the driveway was a 28 - 29 roadster body, not for sale he was keeping it for his son. I did buy the "B" motor and I still have the chrome side cover, oil pan, Thomas intake. The block went Dean Robertson. I also go to antique shows and shops, I always look at the old photographs. That is where I found the picture below. Now a little bending of the truth one could say it's the same car we may never know. Gary Scan_20250701 (6).png

As I understand, Donovan made some years ago that were for D size Winfield carbs. Not sure if any other manufacturers or carb sizes. The only Winfield produced option that I know of was the side by side A’s and AA’s

Pulled the head for the first time on my Roadster. Had two studs that required heat, but other than that no real issues getting it off. Gonna try one of the Burtz 6.5 heads out.

Change in direction, picked up a mid 60’s Gemsa flathead for a T. “cc’d” the combustion chamber, came out pretty consistent, ie no surprises. Have a T cam over at Dema’s to be ground. Since this is going to have a bit of compression and a poor combustion chamber, sending along all the information.

On the Gemsa, fill the chamber with a piston dome with the valve side of the dome slanted so that you can develop some squish and they run pretty good. These heads are a precusor to the Sherman heads. Mid 140 CC's is pretty tyupical for at least one version of the Sherman heads.

  29. 20250707_083523.jpg Retson, I made a Winfield to Stromberg adapter out of a chunk of aluminum. Fairly easy project, sold it after I found a correct Winfield carb that matched my intake. You can do this! This is a styrofoam one I made so I would know it would work.

Checking in. Finally to a point I can consistently work on it after a few setbacks. Currently we’re waiting for pistons from Ross and the engine can be completed. In the meantime I’ve started making some stance adjustments. IMG_9098 Medium.jpeg
