  1. Good job! I do so much by myself, sometimes I look at something I did by myself years ago, and stare at it and ask myself, "how did I do that by myself?

Today started to make wirings. I use only cloth covered stuff.
Oskar come afternoon. We roll top aluminum top panel few times. while fitted and continued rolling.
    Now enough good for me.

I install only small switch panel under dash. One speedway switch (ignition, start...)and another UP switch for lights.

Tomorrow arrive Stromberg distributor + 1.5ohm coil + sparkplug wirings

First pic is 19y old. My ex house in Kalajoki beach (longest beach in Scandinavia) where I built my 5w.

    Thanks.
Today arrived DHL Express shipment from Stromberg UK.
Little extra job to install... I had too big washers under cambolts...
I removed timing cover, removed washers installed cam "spacer" between 42-48 style cam and early 32-41 style distributor.

When installed back, engine was stack. I made 1mm lingerite gasket between block and timing cover.... I didnt found any ready gasket so 30min extra job to draw, cut and drill gasket. Same time I used little extra "fat" material.

I have had 8ba style coil holder. I hope I found it, or need to make it.
Tomorrow I put all radiator etc and hope engine is not smoke when engine has run 3-4 x 5min.
Now supercharger has own oil, not pressure oil with bleed tube.

Thank You CLIVE in STROMBERG !!!

  7. This is a nifty little switch mounting bracket. Did you punch the slotted holes and mount the flange nuts? Perfect for a bitchin car.

that was ready panel. Maybe stuff which has come with Front engine dragsters years ago.
Just glue nuts and washers there to easy installation.

    Thank You Sir !

I have problem with engine. Smoke,... blue -> oil.

I think there is two possibility:

    1) Supercharger "bleed" oil when there is vacuum upside in pressure case.
When I had oil pressure in supercharger "gears" and bigger bleed tube back to engine, it was smoke more even when running 600-800rpm on stands. Now smoking more when I drive... not sure, but looks that when +2000rpm smoking less....

    2) oil rings are not right ones this engine.

I bought ready "put together short block set" from NC (US).
next winter need to find out and solve this problem.

Oil pressure is not as good as it must be.
I need to drive little more and get more "notices" about car.

The car turned out beautifully, I'm really sorry about the engine/compressor issue. Is it possible to run the engine without the compressor for testing purposes, or is that too much effort?

Last Saturday I drove first time longer way up to Kauhava Airfield where they had Fri-Sun Finnish Drag Racing serie competition. Only 38km (+22miles). My son and his friend drove behing me with my GS Buick.
Starter broken (stack), supercharger try to stack too....

I got starter from Summit Racing (Powermaster hi-torque) and pieced supercharger.
Last summer we had long and warm periods here from May to August. This year weather is not so good, so
I have more time to fix problems...

Today continue put together 36M85 -McCulloch supercharger. I changed snout bearing, all 3 oilseal, made new gaskets using same thickness 0,2mm gasket paper..... I need to make also gasket between rotor and case. Looks that rotor try to touch up there. there was felt ring under supercharger rotor. I lathe real 1lip oil seal there. Now better. Front bearing in snout I used 2RS sealed version.

Starter need to install and measure installation height, made one new wiring. Earlier I used original 6V starter which worked OK. Problem was that i hear voice when engine was running (solenoid+sprocket touch nearly all the time to flywheel. Maybe Alum. oilpan starter surface height is not same than original oilpans.
Also note that I need to make new holes + threads to oilpan before can install new hi-torq small starter. Starter solenoid is touch now to header... I turn starter 20-25 dec to up.

McCuloch is now put together and installed on its place. Feels good, turns smoothly, no extra clearance...
Also installed new hitorque starter. I drilled and thread new installation position, didnt want to modify header primaty tube.

I try to start engine. Same bad sound from engine...... and didnt start.
I removed starter, found problem. Flywheel gear ring is loosen..... Ou shit.
I was think that my starter is broken...
I was also think that supercharger is try to stack when engine was try to stop couple of times...

    problem was only this ring.
Good that I opened supercharger and learned very much. same time changed seals, gaskets, bearing....
    Hitorque starter is OK investment.

Tomorrow I try to find solution. Maybe try to drill and made stop screw locking system... Let´s see if I get rebuilt my Schiefer race flywheel without remove engine from hot rod.

    Yes Sirs,
Now flywheel and ring are bolted together.... I worked few hours and solved problem.
I drilled hole to "harder material side" so that when hole and thread (M8) is ready, its 2/3 in ring side and 1/3 in flywheel side. Flywheel has L-pocket where ring is sitting. I drilled and threaded thru flywheel and used those 25mm (1") long stop screws.

sounds good, better. Feels good. Tomorrow I drive longer. My son and his sisters son can follow me driven with my GS Buick.

Sometimes not easy to find problem. Sound was not good, I was think problem was starter, which was damaged due to loosen teeth ring.... and supercharger was noisy too... I was lucky that supercharger condition was good. Learned much , changed all seals, bearing and make new gaskets. Finally also 0,5mm seal between mainbody and rotor case. Rotor was touch case, sounds very very bad.

Last Saturday here in Kauhava Airfield where they race Finnish Championship serie in Drag Racing. My friend 1300cc 1000% homemade 4cylinder nitro TopFuelBike. Twice 5sec in 1/4 mile even in 1000feet belt broken... He is not use gearbox. Small engine, 4kpa boost and +90% nitro.... Top speed is not good due to belt broken. Normally takes 375km/h top speed. But his first 5 sec races.
    I sponsor him.

And Im coming back home behind my GS Buick. Rope between GS and Hot Rod....

    Thanks Chris !
    Yesterday I made some "test'n'tune". Drove 100km (60miles)
Engine sounds OK, very very much low RPM torque. I like this "Aulis Special" cam which has been grinded for me in Holman&Moody.

Engines are so different. My Roadster engine I was dyno (nearly 300hp) years ago when engine was ready. That engine has good torque too, but torque curve is higher.
That engine cam is Potvin 400+,...

    Starter+flywheel works OK.
Oil pressure is low, but can drive. Cold engine 30psi, warm engine 10-14psi. Not happy about that, but if crank grinder has made "little extra" clearance... works like this. Interested in to see all when open engine next winter.

supercharger sounds OK, no extra noice...
Still blue smoke when more RPM. .... Maybe seller was give me wrong oil rings. Cylinder pressure is OK (+100) and I measured piston ring cap clearanse which was OK (under 0,5mm). I guess, broken ring or wrong oil rings.
I see problem when I piece engine after summer.

Yesterday I fixed drv side exhaust, it was "knocking" all the time. Also fixed steering angle. I like this maybe 80-100y old angle tool.

Today I start to make wirings (lights, generator, regulator....) and need to make front header panel (upside of windshield), buy and install wiper (stainless steel 12V boatmodel) in swedish Biltema is something like 30euro..

Impressive the way you can solve, work out problems ( some major ). Interesting view of supercharger apart. Old tech supercharger wheel compared to modern turbo wheels. Did you get any boost from supercharger ( help build torque )? Great build, admire your skills

I dont know if it gives any boost. I have driven rather easy and no boost gauge. I need to open engine next winter.
Today first thing I check that there is enought oil in supercharger and changed bigger jets both carbs.

Today Started make header panel. First installed wood there and modified new UP panel. Wood has been in my garage from Year 2006 when I built my grey 5w coupe with 409cid. Pullmax with shrinking dies is best when need to make this kind of 30mm width curved sheetmetal. 10min and part is ready.

Im not sure what ring and pinion I installed 6y ago when started this project. Car was so many years pushed away,... Feels that 3rd gear is so long.... maybe I have bought 3.25:1 R&P and installed it same time when I changed rear axle wheel bearings/spring brackets from side to another.

    Have a question
    By tapping with threads
Does it keep Ring gear from walking
    Forward's & back ward's on Fly wheel
    & slip / spinning.
Is that why you drilled & tap
    Instead of pinning ,
Or by tapping was a better option
The threaded stud To keep from coming out with thread locker .
Pin would of just been pressed in .

Years ago in US a number of things were advertised for sale to do all magic things to a car engine - more power, mo re miles per gallon, - most junk just advertise to make someone money. Have to wonder if this early blower promised much more then “the truth”. Sure looks great, like all your builds. Tks for sharing

You´re right. I think, its better if old superharger change cylinder filling percent from negative to zero or little over....
Many times it needs many things to get more HP and more important thing called "torque".
    - internal balanced lower weight parts
    - compressio ratio up to 8 or even over 9
    - good cam
    - nice good runners (in, ex)
    - good enough big valves and good valvejobs
    - supercharger is give maybe 10% or 20% more after all that mentioned.

Saturday I drive 100km. Y-sling and supercharger alum.cover have small waterdrops on surface and those are cold, very cold. thats why I installed bigger jets to carbs.

I ring gear was not stack (it was turn on flywheel), so I decided to fix it without lift engine off. pre 48 flathead its so big job to remove flywheel. You need to remove oilpan before can get flywheel on table.

Yes, when flywheel is on table, easy to drill straight holes using bigger milling or drilling machine.
Then You can just press or hit taps. When make holes using bigger machine, You can drill middle of two different material (smooth and hard), Now when I did it by hand, I need to drill all the time in hard material side. Just need 20-30% of hole/thread in aluminum is enough to lock ring there.

Now when I drill using hand drilling dewalt, hole is never round and never straight.
Its easier to drill thru and make 8mm thread. Then I can be sure gear ring and locking screws are stay there.

Flywheel is Aluminum and gear ring is on "L -angle corner". I dont know how to say it english.

We have very much people in Seinäjoki city. They have yearly "Tango Festival" there.... Crazy sales in market place where I have coffee/ice-cream shop. I have worked so hard last 4months, so I decided take short 2days mini vacation to North, Lapland. I drove 5w coupe on trailer, Oskar and I packed some stuff on bed and we drove yesterday 550km north to Tornio city. Border between Finland and Sweden is 1km from our hotel. Oskar just drove hot rod down from trailer and parked front of Hotel Olof. They have big Wheels Nationals american car meeting here.
Its in Haparanda, Swedish side. Only River flows between Fin and Swe. There will be over 1000 american cars near river.
