Features The Ugliest Kustoms of the 50s

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by Jive-Bomber, Feb 21, 2013.

  1. This one is crazy cool. That space ship rear is killer.
The only problem I see is that little children might start to cry when they see the front end.

This car was built on the east coast and ended up in St Joseph Missouri. Which is when the picture was taken .St Joseph is 100 miles from where I live. Hmmmm.

Most all mothers think there baby is pretty++++++++++++,and it is the case,as often said "Eye of Beholder"
Today some* who look an call "ugly" on customs and cars of the 1950s n 60s,don't have eye of the times,so do not see stuff in the same way!! Yes ,there was some that were ugly then an now, just not to the mother !!!
I was lucky to have lived it and very into cars the hole time! Nothing can be said, that will make what a younger guy sees as ugly into pretty. How much of a artist are you'all?

  13. I’m willing to bet there were plenty of folks when some of these rides were just out of the shop called em ugly.
Id still drive em either way.

  17. Could be worse.
At least these cars aren’t gassers.

As homely as most of these cars are, there is still something endearing about them. I have no forgiveness in my heart though for ugly 80’s kustoms.

George Barris created some really ugly vehicle modifications. He was the king
of ugly customs. just my opinion. His Sam created some really nice Merc chop jobs,
class and eye pleasing style. Just my opinion. I lived in the California bay area in the early sixties and saw a few of his efforts in person at various venues.

I think it was built by someone named Frank Maratta. It actually made the cover of Rod & Custom when it was PINK.

I didn't know that drugs were available back then. The only thing missing is a visor and hydraulics.

Actually, that car is a very close replica of the "Phantom Corsair" built in 1938 by Rusty Heinz ( yes, that Heinz) I think it is pretty good looking, and was way ahead of the times, in styling, for the era it was built (by Boehman and Schwartz, I believe)
