@swade41 - The bisected oil pan is hard to look at. Catastrophic failure to the extreme.

Well i believe i can pick up some time with a set of tires. Plus a 3.73 gear in the 1/8th mile isn't doing me any favors lmao... I'm having thoughts about ordering some M/T 275-60 radial slicks before the tri five nationals, and running it down the 1/4 mile.

According to the NHRA conversion chart, the heavy Chevy, with the interior still in it, on street tires, pulled a 13.88 1/4 mile. I need to take the back seat out.

A low 13 would give me the big head and swell my nuts up like grapes!

A 13.88 1/4 mile would be faster than most magazine tested musclecars factory delivered. Pretty good for the 1st time out. Stickier tires and feathering it out of the hole could save the rear. Or break it. That's racing!

13's is good considering she's a big girl. Go man go......

  21. Me?? Hooked?? I’ve been hooked on drag racing since age 10 and started reading Popular Hot Rodding and watching it on Diamond P Sports! I was fortunate enough to do a little bracket racing in the mid-90’s. Lloyd is completely responsible for uncovering the sleeping racing bug and now feeding it!!! Of course being a small part of Lloyd’s fantastic efforts is icing on the cake.

And once again, it appears that the racing addiction may be winning (nothing wrong with that, racing is fun, and expensive).

I suspect by reading that the poor old wagon's street life will be coming to a possible temporary end soon. Faster strip time slips will be more important then driving it down the street.

Going in only one of the two directions is all that works well when only one vehicle is involved. The dabbling of a dual purpose ride does not do justice to either direction. Compromising to serve two venues at the same time sucks, it also sucks when both venues occupy the same seasons of the year. Trying to do both with one ride leads to disappointment and frustration. Been there, tried that, doesn't work!

I suggest you choose a direction that best serves your current interest and peruse that to its fullest level you can. When (and if) the current interest changes, you can always seek the other option at that time.

Spoken with understanding, from my wasted years of frustrated experiences. Maybe you can benefit from my experience.

  24. I would agree to disagree, my Henry J has always been a pump gas street/strip machine. The nostalgia group I raced with ran every 2 weeks, the time in-between I drove it on the street, pull the wheels every pass at the track and drive 45 minutes to work.
I agree that you'll never be the fastest car on race day but it's bracket racing, you don't need to be, you just need to know yourself and your car to run the same time consistently.
Do you give up some street abilities, sure, it's not going to be the quietest car or ride like a Cadillac, but hey it's a car you can confidently know that'll give you a big fat grin when you're behind the wheel and step on the loud panel.
So yes, you can have an enjoyable street/strip vehicle but you also can't ask more of it than what it is.

For me a race car never see the street. A street car is just that just need to able to keep up with local street rules.

A street/strip car ought to look and sound nasty. ''Saturday night special'', you bring it out on weekends to raise a little hell. But it's got to run a respectable number to back up the looks. If you want a cushy ride, jump in the truck. Just my opinion.

I'm guessing you guys have never heard of this thing called "Drag Week". A whole bunch of guys drive their cars all over the country running from drag strip to drag strip, running incredibly low E.T's. Some are down into the 6 second arena and the things drive unaided from track to track. There's a guy that posts on the HAMB periodically by the name of Squirrel, who's had a little experience with it....
Not saying it's easy, or cheap, but it is being done.
