I’ve been hunting for a 9’ bed AD truck for a while. Found this old girl that has a 302 gmc engine. I just rebuilt the top end, adding ac and other stuff. It will be lettered with my business on the side and driven to construction sites. I hate the old wagon wheels on it and found some steel wheels and painted gray and put some new bias mud tires on the back and steer tires up front. I went back and forth on wheel color. Cream or gray. I went with this gray/blue color. Does it look ok or should I go cream? I’m thinking of putting some factory caps on it and maybe they should be cream color on the gray wheels? I’m no good at color matching this stuff.
the wheels would be black if it were my truck, but color is one of those things that you have to choose for yourself.
Guess I was looking more at the first photo…….. I think the gray looks way better than cream ever will. But black would be my personal choice, especially for a work truck.
I would go with body colour, whatever that is supposed to be or what you want it to be in the future (if that applies).
I think the color you painted them looks good. Leave it alone. It doesn't need hub caps. The steel rims as is give it a nice work truck look. It should look good with your company name lettered on the side.
I agree that the grey looks nice and the only other choice I might have would be black. But, also agree on the “no hubcaps” look. Makes it look like a work truck. Those wheels are a HUGE improvement over the wagon wheels.
Hello, I happen to have a question about 1942 Chevy trucks we always saw driving and parking around this coastal area. Come to find out, this yellow/white 1942 Chevy pick up truck looks like a custom truck, but there are clues that it is a shop truck, carrying packages and boxes of parts to be shipped across the USA. It is a work truck for light weight parts and boxes. The owner told me about both trucks as they were finished and helps with his business. For the heavy stuff, the friend behind the 1942 custom yellow truck, looks like it could carry a lot more, large and bulky car parts for delivery everywhere. The stake bed helps for larger items. A 1938 Chevy stake bed truck? Jnaki So, custom wheels if the truck is done nicely and stock black wheels with little center hubcaps shows the “work” portion of delivery trucks. Note: Anytime one uses black, despite it being simple and easy to spray on, it allows the look to have just the center hubcap or add in beauty trim rings to make it custom…YRMV
I agree with JNAKI. I don't care for the look of "work truck hubs". That's too anti-hotrod of a look. I'm also a baby Moon guy, so plus points for those....... deduct points for poverty caps. The gray paint is okay, though a little more 'dead' looking than the cream color mentioned, in my unworthy opinion.
I think they look good gray, but if you're not digging it maybe think about what color you're going to do the lettering in and tie into that. Sweet truck to take to work sites, much cooler than any modern rig.
Regular wheels on an 8 lug 48 should be black if I read this right https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...its/chevrolet-trucks/1948-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf scroll down to exterior colors and finishes.
