Hi everyone, I just picked up a 1953 oldsmobile 88 and was looking to swap in this 455 with a turbo 400. What did everyone us for mounts or do I have to make custom mounts.

Thats a lot of cubic inches for a traditional hot rod site. Like a hundred more.

I like what you're up to and you'll most likely have to fab your own.

As others said, it is fab your own on this but it shouldn't be that difficult. I had a 350 Olds in my 51 Merc for a long time and a lot of miles and the mounts were pretty simple using the stock Olds mounts.

You could probably take a set of mounts from a skylark or a roadmaster and modify them to fit your car. It would give you a place to start. While many cars on the site run big blocks don’t be alarmed if this combo winds up in the off topic section. Buick didn’t offer a big block until 67. Chevy offered the 396 in 65 which without checking numbers can not be descerned from a 454. 455s can make good power and it would be a cool power plant. Please keep us updated.

There are 2 sets of holes in the sides of a 455 block, it will allow some la***ude on mounts.

since this is a traditional hot rod site, you might consider going with an Olds V8. 324 cubes or 371cubes…dead in the middle of the Hot Rod book. They look great ! Still a ****load of speed parts around ! Stock motor mounts. Sound great.
What is in your 53 now ? Was there a trans ?

I say for that reason the 455 Olds is also "in".

It takes a serious Olds guy to tell the difference between a 330" Olds and a 455" Olds......the only difference is deck height of block....thus the small block intake is narrower than the big block....but visually identical engines. Same cylinder heads.
You can also apply the same reasoning to the Ford 351Windsor....also not available in 1965....but seemingly allowed here as well....

    Just sayin'....

I pulled a 53 Olds 98 home a couple years ago. We got it running and stopping. A guy came along and wanted to buy it. He said he was going to put in a modern drive train and I said if he did, I would love to buy the 303 when he pulled it.

A little while later he stopped back by and said how he had been doing some reading and decided to leave the 303. I told him "good choice".

I did this engine conversion back in 1969 into a 55 Chevy pickup. Made the mounts from scratch using the Olds rubber side mounts and fabricated weld on side mounts and a round tube trans mount. It ran like a scalded dog.

olds engine-1.jpg Here's several views of the mounts we fabbed to put a 425 in a 49 back in the 80's. Can't be much difference between 49 and 53. We used a 400 turbo also, just a simple crossmemder for that. My brother changed it to a Fatman's stub frame which is why this is cut out. Fit good in the 49.

I saw 455 and immediately thought Buick. My bad, like the 454 Chevy the 455 olds was not out in 65 but you’d be hard pressed to single one out from the big blocks that were available. It’s great that it isn’t a Buick as they didn’t have big block anything during the HAMB friendly years. There are a lot of Olds speed parts out there. Good luck.
