The legendary Iola swapmeet and also the Showdown at Sanford Field were both this weekend so of course I bought a bunch of shit. I did actually get some stuff I needed, some shop supplies, a couple Model A bits including a never used aluminum fan blade, some new lug nuts for the chrome reverse I mounted on my '57, an extra Edelbrock carb that I have several cars to use on, etc. I also bought a few more signs I have no more wall space for and some shit that just looked neat. A single Cal Custom valve cover for $5 for the collection, a set of hubcaps that say "Miley" on them (I assume from a trailer? Never heard of them before), and a pair of Lyon hubcaps that are pretty ugly but have an amazingly cool spinner in them that I really want to reuse on some other cap. Only a pair though, never saw one before.
I went to get a part for my pool pump and ran across these in the guys shop, I had to have them. My wife says that no matter where I seem to go, I always come home with more "junk". I took it as a compliment.
My '40 dlx CTC auction buy, will be scouring JJ & the H.A.M.B. for ideas/pointers/tips. Who would have thought FoMoCo truly perfected the automobile in 1940? An ignition switch locking the steering column in '40?, that one kicked my arse for a week, couldn't imagine. The "Brooks" is as close as I can find to a reference for my vision. 351M, manual/9", definitely not quite that low and not blown either. Mustang wheels just make it roll. More questions in the forums. hope the images aren't wasteful. thanks
Swap meet today. I picked up a helmet for my collection and a Weiand water pump and some proper street tires for my Jr Stocker project.
I just scored this fine Snap On tire scribe from one of our favorite friendly neighborhood moderators Mark Moriarity!! Lord knows I’ve been watching this for a while and I couldn’t take it any longer and had to have it. And he was so excited about adding to the “Tri Five Chevrolet Canted Headlight Custom Fund” he bypassed all of the cars at his house and peddled the rascal to the post office for me Now that’s what I call a true friend and dedicated HAMBer!!!
G’day Mark, Noted your interest in the books for younger readers, and may have one that would suit your collection. I’d been looking for a copy of Art Arfons Fastest Man on Wheels for a while, and finally found it. Had hoped it was a long biography, but instead it is aimed at younger readers - mebbe high school age. I enjoyed the read (the Green Monsters fascinate me), but it will likely now gather dust. If it would suit your collection, please PM me a name and address and I’ll send it to you, gratis. Cheers, Harv
