Anyone ever buy anything from [ This is exactly how he lists ] Willis shop and hotrodsgarage. LOTS of parts. Some dirt cheap.
I always look at the background in the listings, if they have multiple listings with different backgrounds I smell a scam. If you look at his facebook page, you will notice none of the backgrounds in his listings match. I'd advise caution.
Get the guy's phone number and give him a call. I've found most scammers will not talk on the phone and will give numerous excuses why they can't. The one I did get a phone number from had a very thick accent I couldn't understand the connection was horrible. If you do talk to the guy ask for additional pictures from different angles. If someone stole the imagers from another website it would pretty impossible to get more pictures. Get his address and do an internet search.
Tell him that you are local and that you want to pick up the parts in person. I have said it before and I will say it again that the H.A.M.B. cl***ifieds are the safest place to buy parts….
his number is on the facebook page. what are you looking to buy? tell him you know a guy in Fremont who can come and pick it up and pay cash. nobody legit would say no to that
All you have to do is ask him where he is, and can I (or my "uncle who lives close by and will pay you cash") pick these up tomorrow? If they come back with a bunch of excuses, like "my grandmother just died "or "my dog ate my homework", they are just another internet idiot.
Looks like the roadster for sale on same page was for sale here 9 years ago , $ 10,000 - note - the same photos if you scroll down far enough. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1928-ford-roadster.1011309/ Some other stuff I didn’t find a reverse image search for. A lot of high dollar, nice stuff for sale every few days. I would not part with any money until I was holding the part in my hand !
Here is the original ad for something else on his page, again from the hamb https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/original-electroline-2200-headlights.934532/ of course it’s possible that he is a hamber and is genuinely reselling stuff…… I suspect it is a scam. .
On a slightly different note ! A few weeks back, a member here showed us his upholstery job on his seat in his cool ‘32 3 window. Same day a face book ad had his same images showing the seat for sale. At least in that instance the scammer wrote his own words, even making up what style of upholstery it was. Somebody had already sent him a deposit. A simple reverse image search would have saved his money.
To do a reverse image search, save image to your device, Go to google, Insert image, Touch search. Maybe touch on images, to load more. For other ads with lots of wording, cut and copy most of the description, leaving out the price and location, and go to google, paste (what you cut) touch search Hopefully this will help some who are not aware of the search ability of the internet. .
ALWAYS ***ume it's fake. If its facebook check the ABOUT tab to see how old the page is and any name changes. Also sometimes what country manages the page. ALWAYS ALWAYS get another pic of the parts they have with a name card in the photo.
Exactly!! I looked at the ad from the HAMB on the headlights from all the way back in 2014. The pics on the fakebook posting are the same ones as were on the HAMB ad. They even copied and pasted the description word for word, except the last line with price and location of course. I smell a rat.
if you are a big dummy like me this is a camera. click that and load the photo. I could not figure out how to do this until today. one thing I noticed if you put a picture of a black 32 ford in there you get all kinds of black 32 fords learn something new every day, problem is I forget something old every day as well.
Any image you post to a public forum is in the public domain and subject to public use, even if you copyright images and videos it is cost prohibitive to seek legal action as a recourse. Ever since I started posting on the internet back in 2006, my images and videos have been monetized by others for profit. Jim
Looks like he posts pics with several different back grounds, no consistency. Map shows him as being in Chicago, says California, some ads say Texas, Houston etc. Parts way too cheap, like E&J headlights for $1200. Page name has been changed since it started 2 years ago. Too many red flags to want to even try to deal with him.
Reverse image search is a must, and very fast. You don't even have to save the picture to your device, you can drag and drop a picture from another tab or window into the Google images search field. As for the OP, this is 100% absolutely a scam. There's no need to call the guy or tell him your cousin lives next door or whatever, it's BS for sure, I'd bet money on it.
It helps if you try to get photos with different angles or backgrounds. You can then click on ‘exact match’ to refine your search.
Now that we know this site is as phoney as a 3 dollar bill, if everyone sends them a message about one of their parts, and then tell them that you want to pick it up and pay cash, it will keep the dumb-**** busy for a few days. String them along with a few messages (ask for another picture or close-up of that mint 32 grille, and they send you a pic. of a Mustang bumper). It's good, wholesome free fun!
