Going to your neck of the woods at the end of the month for a spine specialist. The problem is the neck/shoulder not the leg but I guess that will be next. As the saying goes, "Getting old isn't for sissy's"

Seeing this reminded me about a story my dad told me about when he was in his early teens somewhere around 1955 or so. He and a buddy built a go cart using an old chainsaw motor and was testing it out on the streets. He and his friend somehow managed to both get on while my dad was driving it wide open down a main thoroughfare passing cars like nobody’s business. His buddy noticed that the light coming up was red and whenever they hit the brakes it just went faster:eek: So dad did the only thing he could think of and tried using his feet to stop the thing. Needless to say they flew through the intersection with cars dodging them, feet on the ground smoking like crazy and when they finally stopped both of them were damn near barefoot. Dad had to go home and figure out a way to tell my grandma why his new Converse had no soles left on them and he could use a new pair. o_O And this is the same guy that used to yell at me for doing stupid shit:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I second this answer, although I say "Hot Rods have 3 pedals and late model used cars have two!"

LOL...yup, things were different back then...my best friend and I actually took 2 Taco mini bikes, cut them in half and built a 2 engine bike with twin 5hp Briggs motors...We lived out in the country and that mini bike would easily pass cars running 50 mph down the road...unfortunately, I was 12 years old and welded like a 12 year old...everything was great until the frame broke in half, which sent my best friend, and cohort, flying into a grape vineyard in the classic Superman pose....dust and mini bike parts flew everywhere...it was AWESOME....LOL...we are still best friends today, 60 years later.

Always, always, always 3 pedals when I have a choice. From 1982 til about 2008 every car I owned had a manual trans, except for one work truck. I even bracket raced a manual trans Mopar.

I agree, three pedals definitely makes a hot rod feel more sporty and gives you a feeling of total control that’s hard to beat. I put a 3 spd with Overdrive in my ‘31 sedan trying not to give in to the late model transmission trend. But I don’t mind seeing or driving a hot rod with a slush box as long as it’s not a Powerglide, Dynaflow or other two speed piece of crap. The old 4 speed Hydros in my roadster and my Stude feel pretty hot roddy to me.

Shouldda known this would be big.
Think about it two hands, two feet
When it's Go Time a hand on the wheel, and one on the stick.
One foot on the clutch, one on the gas.
They're all workin' to keep you stuffed into the seat.
Now that's ddrriivviinn. Also what Ricky said.

While it would take a lottery hit or such to get it, I'd absolutely want a 1969 L-88 Vette coupe...WITH A FUCKIN TURBO 400. Yeah, I said it. Sure as fuck did. I don't need a reason, but I know that badass would tuck my sack in my ass crack and I'd have one less thing to be concerned about. My GTO is a 4spd, my 39 is a stock 39 3 spd trans, nearly every car that passes thru my place is a stick. My racer had a 400 with all the fixins including a manual valve body, Hipster trans brake and 5000 stall convertor. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to the release of a trans brake at the levels of hot shit we're normally on about. Our fearless leader can attest, if my memory serves he ran a Super Gas Camaro in his youth. If the game is for fun above all, yeah 3 pedals. Wanna go fast, get there 1st, be consistent, nothing beats an automatic. Unless you're Grumpy or the legendary "Mr 4spd". Yeah, I said it, now what:cool:

I wonder if Grumpy, Landry, or any other cigar chomping , speed shifting crazies ever had had the cherry pop off while banging gears?

I prefer driving a car with a stick. No real reason for it. When I daydream about driving, I’m subconsciously rowing gears! It’s fun chirping the tires, power shifting, and rev matching on downshifts. I like the reaction when someone sees a shifter and third pedal where they never expected it.

It’s not faster. It’s annoying in traffic. It’s more expensive. Pedals and linkage are a pain in the ass. So I completely understand the people that don’t want one.

I just think they’re cool.

Some things just have "charisma" and some don't....................thats all there is to it.

Would American Graffiti have been the same great movie if the sound track had everyone driving automatics ? How about Easy Rider..........part of the Harley Mystique is the "click" when you put it into gear and the throaty rumble while the clutch is held in..........they even started the movie off with just that scenario.

    https://m.imdb.com/video/embed/vi2656027929/

How about the chase scene in "Bullitt" with Steve McQueen . I can't post the video on this site because its a Mustang, but no automatic there.

Two Lane Blacktop.............again, the charisma of the engine sound coupled with the shifting of gears. Just not there with automatics.

Tell me you wouldn't want to drive this car .........

Hell, they even made the detectives' LTD in The Streets of San Francisco sound like a four speed in some scenes.
