    Hey @J.Ukrop
Hey Joey, "Imitation is the highest form of flattery"

That being said, when I saw the very cool "Echlin" starter solenoid that you are using, I said, that is the most unintended, kick ass, natural robot face, that reminds me of cool vintage toys and space stuff from the 50's.

So I had to tinker with it and use it as one of my many whacked out avatars for the H.A.M.B.

Thanks for all of the continuing cool updates on this magnificent obsession that is culminating in one cool, kick ass ride!
    Thanks from Dennis.

Ya know while you wait on parts you could “bench bleed” the master while it’s mounted in the chassis.

Check the torque on those axle nuts periodically. The first season I was driving my '40 I checked them 3 times and they tightened up a bit each time. Now they get done once a year even though they've stopped moving... just ensuring there's no movement of the hub on the axle.

I'm yet to have a proper look at my axle tapers, but since I've been in this job I have learnt the value of a well lapped taper, the key shouldn't be doing the work, but the fit of the taper. We aim for some where near 8 tons of 'break away' albeit a larger shaft size.

Your roadster is coming along so nicely Joey, it's exciting to see!

So so true. Everything in due time.

Hahahah I love it, Dennis. And I'm honored to have one of my shots as your avatar. Or should I say "001010001000100100101010."

    Good advice, thanks!

Thank you so much. We're getting there!

    Okay @Jeff34, here's what I got:
    • Sta-Lube SAE 140 Gear Oil for the transmission
    • Royal Purple 75W-90 full synthetic, which should be the right one according to our friends at @Winters Performance.

Tonight's update is a minor one, but I'm pretty excited about it. IMG_0986.jpg
My mystery dash knobs arrived in the mail, and they're just perfect. They have a great feel to them, and the textured pattern is right at home with the pitting on the steering wheel and the insert's wrinkle finish. The black washers will be replaced by chrome ones once I can make it to the hardware store before it closes.

While I was mapping out my wiring the other day, I decided I wanted matching switches with a refined personality. The one on the left is for headlights, and the one on the right is for the electric fuel pump.

Good stuff. Outback is right about the taper fit. It should be possible to run without the key. It is just an aid to make it last longer and be tougher. At any rate a good fit makes it less likely to shear a key. Maybe more likely to break an axle. Do you have safety hubs?
There is a version of that solenoid with a button on the bottom. Several of my old Fords had them, some tractors & Internationals too. It allows you to turn the engine from under the hood without help to getting to the dash button. Very handy.

Today I was greeted by two great packages on my doorstep. We now have wheel bearing seals and battery cable. IMG_1026.jpg
Two of the cables have already been installed, and the starter solenoid is bolted in. I'm looking forward to getting out to the garage this weekend and making some progress!

  11. Keep an eye on the new tie-rod rubber boots as well. They are made of the same junk rubber. I had some that look just like yours go bad sitting still in the garage after 0 miles and 1 year. Replaced with old ones and no issues.
