HI Guy's, Has anyone had a new 1939-40 Mercury Custom Ch***is built in or around Los Angeles area , Or any other recommendations please. Thank you in advance Gentleman
I’ve never seen a 40 Merc repro ch***is offered. I suppose someone could bend one up from a CAD file and a mandrel tube bender.
The floor pan may be the same, but the Merc wheelbase is 4" longer, (116") than a Ford. (112") I think its from the firewall forward, but I am not certain about that part.
What I'm thinking is, if the Merc is similar to the Ford ch***is, I'd start with one of the aftermarket Ford ch***is shops and have them modify their Ford design. On the other hand, as Jeff asked above; what's wrong with the original ch***is?
The 39 and 40 Mercs were 4 inches longer and it was in the body. Thev 41 and up was made forward of the firewall. I had a 39 for several years and found many small differences from Fords of the same years.
There might be a ch***is for sale here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1939-1940-mercury-convertible-parts.1338169/
I know of a 4 door that is being parted out and has a complete rolling ch***is that might be for sale here in AZ.
1939-40 Mercury frames are not even close in design to 1935-40 Ford frames. I think the 1939 Mercury is the same as 1940 Mercury. Sketch is of a 1939 from an old book of frame diagrams (Tatum) .
