Customs My 61 Sunliner was rear ended by a Mitsubishi

could have been a lot worse the Mitsubishi that hit it was hauled off .There is more damage than shows in the pictures to my car but I drove my car home after tying the exhaust away from rubbing the tire. Wife & I are both still sore . Working on getting it fixed anybody have a rear bumper within a few hundred miles of Louisville or coming to the NSRA nationals that is not rusted or ripped that could be straightened and plated. Mine is ripped at a bolt hole and thin from being straightened before. The plater thought they could save mine but if I could find a better one I would be better off

 

Man that ****s but at least nobody got hurt and the car is fixable.

Hate to see that, glad you guys are OK. I've been re-ended a couple of times over the years. Talk about a helpless feeling... Once at a stoplight totaling my (then DD) '69 SS Chevelle, looked like an accordion in the aftermath.

Don't ignore the soreness, and see your doctor if it doesn't go away soon - it can take some time before the full extent of the injuries are apparent.

 

looking for parts I found Burton Antique Auto Parts, LLC www.burtonantiqueautoparts.com. they make new rear trim panels and washboards for 61 fords. I have been to there place several years Ago picking up some chrome plating at Metal Bright chrome plating in Dayton Ohio next door to them

My dad got rear ended in his 61 Fairlane 500 sedan in 1964. The rear frame on those cars is pretty weak which explains the door gap issue.
Another local guy got rear ended in his 64 Galaxie 500XL R code 427 car a year later. Totaled that one. The rear frame folded up so the taillights were pointing at the sky. Drivetrain got transplanted into a brand new Fairlane GT, which he still has last I heard.

Man I’m sorry to hear that. There are WAY too many drivers out there that just don’t care, and don’t pay attention.

The number of car crashes that happen every single day just astounds me.

 

Get a medical checkup for your "soreness" to avoid back and neck pain in the future.
When you're young, you're flexible. As you age, not so much.

 

Sincere regrets but glad you're both OK.

 

And do***ent everything! If you can, make sure the insurance company leaves that driver with nothing buy their underwear to WALK the streets in.
It' s a load of horsehockey that we have to contend with "drivers" that pay more attention to their phones than moving a 3500-4000 pound m*** around in traffic.

@tim troutman sorry to hear, but glad the car is fixable and you both are ok.

 

I feel your pain; my 32 Sport Coupe was rear ended at speed on I-80 that sent me from the right-hand lane across (2) adjacent lanes & into the median cable & pillar supports, the cables were life saving for I & possibly others in the oncoming traffic corridor but resulted in devastating damage.

 

Glad you are somewhat ok and not badly hurt. I agree on the advice given that you should go and see a doctor. Could save you a lot of pain in the long run. The car did it´s best to protect you, looks like a new bumper and a little paint for the blemishes at the door and 1/4 panel is all she needs.

 

driver had insurance and they have paid me. probably going to do most of the work myself but it will take some time.I had been working on my 36 pretty steady but it will be put on the back burner for a while

Rear-ended sitting still in my new '77 Chev. Silverado, by a 4 door Chev Impala doing 45 MPH in 1980. I was on my way to work. His Insurance Bamboozled into settling the medical part for 5K..
As I sit here now my entire spine, neck to posterior is in a hurt. You need to protect your future; I found out the extreme hard way!! . Find a good injury lawyer, no matter if you or her feel pain now or not. Wait at least two weeks befor talking to his insured, !!!!

I hope you did not settle too early. Rear end collision injury can take a while to show up.

 

I have the car about ready to paint have gathered up some new and used parts.I have a good friend who thinks he can blend in the paint and clear somtime in DEC. bumper is plated, exhuast is repaired.rear crossmember is straightened,working on the stainless trim.should be done in time to cruise in the spring

 

Rear in collision on a Harley for me . Knocked me off into the pavement . I was young and tough SOB , really ! Ha ha . I gathered myself and when Police and EMT showed up . I told them I was fine . 2 years later I could not feel my fingers , or raise my arm to dry my head from a shower . I go to Dr ., MRI and 2 vertebra crushed . 2 in lower back herniated . Neck fused 2 x four in one piece now , still dealing with lower back . Do not settle quickly , problems could take a bit to show up . Repairs are there , but you are never as before damage . I have 30 % loss of range of motion in my neck for life now . The kid that hit me told the Policeman I stopped in front of him . It was a bit funny . The Policeman ask him “ so if he stopped in front you , I guess he was wanting you to run over him ! “

 

I'm still hurt from a 2011 accident. I did do***ent everything and started a personal injury case via no fault.

I sued the other driver and won a settlement. The cap was $50k, also the same amount on what was covered by the medical coverage.

Since then, I upped all my coverages. Which added little to my insurance bill.

 

And in my state police will not check cell phone history for texting or phone use at time of collision, unless there is a fatality.
