A Hotrod of sorts (?)

Spent the week in Montana, and one thing on the to do list was to ride the Red Bus on the Road to the Sun, which is a very narrow road with minimum retaining wall on one side and cliff face on the other, up to Logan P*** which is at 6700 ft.

The fleet is 33 White buses, all made from 1936-38.
Ford Motor Co. donated $300,000 EACH to have them modernized! Late model F-series ch***is with gas burning V-8’s, auto trans, and dually rear ends. Restored interiors and exteriors. And the top slides back!
Pretty cool!

 

They’re all gonna need a pair of Smithy’s. Hehe.

 

The ones I've seen also run on propane.

They quit using the propane, even though some buses are still badged as using it.
Out driver said they would not start when they got to the P*** rest area. HA!
Had all kinds of issues, all gas now.

Bill, my buddy and fellow club member Mark and his wife Liz got to ride one of those buses last week, he said it was a blast. HRP

 

It’s seat puckering when you’re on the outside and tight agsinst the barrier(?) which is only about 18” high. Our driver had about 40 years doing this, so piece-o-cake for him..came back down against the wall and had all the mirrors at the bottom!

 

Okay. Has been more than a few years since I saw and talked to them. Need to take my wife there while we are still able.

Yellowstone still has some of the old busses too

 

Yes, Yellowstone’s were yellow (of course), and Glacier Park’s were red.
There were some cream colored ones made, but our guide didn’t know for which park.

Yes, but not as much as the last few years. Later in the year snowfall stays longer. The Road to the Sun usually gets cleared in June!

Some of those white patches are actually glaciers.
They have to be at least 25 feet deep and 145 acres, or it’s considered just a snow field.
