Hey all, I'm trying to find a good looking tire for my '59. I personally like the stock tires with tall sidewalls and a thinner width. I also like skinny whites, because I'll be running the stock painted rims, and I like the separation of the white wall from the wheel. The closest thing that I have found that's in my price range are cheapies from Discount Tire in the modern size of 205/75R15. What has worked for you all? Thanks for any help.
sorry, don't have any good advice for you, check out coker tire if you haven't already... You can download the coker tire catalog from their website, have a nice selection and impeccable service. they are an alliance vendor, so they'll sell you tires at close to wholesale (I think) with the alliance membership. don't know if you're set on bias plys over radials. I know in the past, coker's radials had some problems which I read they have since fixed. the bias plys have an excellent reputation. hope this helps.
No, I'm not really set on anything, just trying to find something that looks decent in my price range. Thanks for the info.
Do a search for: "seeking pix". I did this a few months ago and got back a BUNCH of '57-'60 F100 pix. No specific tire info, but lots of different sizes/styles shown. BTW- what kind of engine, trans, ch***is are you runnin'? I have a '59 too.
Hey, I'm not big on supportin' the Chinese Military Complex, but I've seen real cheap 600X16, 650X16 &750X16 regular bias 6 ply on yee bay S****ey devils C.C,
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm running a 6 banger with a 3 on the tree right now. My cousin has a fully built Clifford 300 that needs cam bearings that I'm trying to ilk out of him, because its just sitting on his shop floor. He's building a log manifold for one of his baby hemi's, so I think I'm going to do the same for the 6 and either run 3 or 6 singles. We'll see what I can come up with. What are you running in your '59? Do you know anyone with any of the interior door panels? My truck had this horrible interior job done that almost completely covered the door, so I ripped that off, and of course, the stock panels are gone. Anyways, I'll definitely do a search and look at all the combo. Thanks!
Also, I'm running the stock ch***is. Elpolacko is lowering the front axle for me, and I'm either going to de-arch the back springs or flip the axle depending on how low the front axle is dropped.
My truck is in pieces right now (just getting started) but I'll be using a 300 also, slightly modded. Check out fordsix.com for a TON of info and help. I plan on using ELpolacko's Dakota x-member for IFS and power rack and pinion. Flipped rear axle. If I come across any door panels I'll let you know, but it shouldn't be too difficult to make some. BTW- if you go to fordsix.com do a search for Colonel Flashman's '58 Mercury M100 (Canadian F100). Looks bone-stock but has a SERIOUS firebreathing 300 in it. Pretty amazing. Also, look for Frenchtownflyer. He's a dragracer with plenty of help for us regular folk.
I had a set of those discount tires on my `60 panel and they looked good. I now run them on my wife's T-bird with supremes. I also just got a set of 4 1/2 mono springs for the front from cl***ic performance & it should be pretty low with the FE big block, but I have some issues in the rear due to the floor being 3" lower than a pickup...
My father-in-law has the cheapies on his truck, and they look pretty good, too. How have they held up? The AZ sun is pretty brutal on tires. Elpolacko's IFS is definitely the way to go if you can swing it. I had to sell my '65 Ranchero to get this truck, so I'm definitely familiar with the 6er site. What all are you doing to your 300? You'll have to keep me posted on your progress. Mine's in pieces, too. I was working at a pretty good clip getting her roadworthy, but then my wife gave me a honey-do list, and at the very bottom was my truck. Oh well... Do you know about any five speeds that are an easy fit with the 300? I know that Ford used that 300 forever, so I'm sure that there's a five speed that will bolt right up. That would sure make for a nice driver. Thanks!
