Feeling ashamed now - saw this at the Nos Nats but it didn't click! Must pay more attention - wish I'd said hello now! I will one day soon, cheers, Jon
This thread makes for terrific reading. We feel your pain and your joy. thanks for allowing us on your journey
Vintage Speed is a challenging proposition...the thrashing is admirable and part of the culture...you are fighting the good fight. Hotrod is quite the nasty machine...it must be great stepping back in time with the whole experience...
A small update, but nothing to big until it is on the beach at pendine in just over a months time. But the body has had a complete revamp with a new roof section and even more chop! here’s this to keep the appe***e up!
This looks really good. With an existing roll cage, you are limited on how much more you can chop, but the fine tuning is impressive and shows the work that went into it. I presume that is the nose you are going to use.
I enjoyed your project and your building skills, but I'm in love with the roof of that little brick building! I've never seen that style of tile before! It's probably a very old building. The countryside setting adds even more excitement.
Congratulations on getting your hot rod to Pendine. That event is on my bucket list. My father-in-law was from Newport, so it'd be interesting to go there, to see where he grew up, only to "flee" the UK and emigrate to Australia
Mission accomplished 25 years later, will do a full write up tomorrow but amazing weekend back on that beach!
So after months of messing around, re chopping the body, fitting new roof’s making a nose and tons of work, we finally got the 34 down to the beach to see what it can do and it didn’t disappoint even when it couldn’t keep its body panels on. the first day of racing was a complete wash out with rain and high winds which was abit disheartening after all the hard work and 250 plus miles flat towing the car there, but a day inside the caravan drinking tea, eating cake & watching racing videos of el mirage just so we can feel abit warmer wasn’t a problem, the next day was bright and sunny we got down to the beach we were the in the first 10 cars to make a run at the track and Clark was the first driving lining up and straight away ran 108.75 for a new cl*** record and just over a 1mph off the fastest NA flathead to run the beach on our first ever run down there so we aren’t doing bad. I was next up later in the day there is a bad crosswind there due to a drop in the sand dunes and a certain point I hit that which entered the car and popped the p***enger door open, it has absolutely no inner structure and being suicide it really didn’t need much to do it, I had a small thought in my brain to slow down but thought no we are here now so I made the run at Just over 100mph with one door out on the breeze it made for a great view. So that was us done for the weekend. We are so happy on the car and big plans are afoot already for next year. Have to say thanks to Clark the flathead whisperer who killed it on the motor and for everything else we did on the car. And thanks to Louis for his dentisty on the grill repair, general help and laughs. What a weekend we had, very thankful for good mates who like stupid ideas just as much as me! So a door hanging in the breeze subtracts about 8 percent? Good to hear that's the worst of it and you had a good time.
Good stuff! The first picture with the car framed by the sand and water was particularly nice. I noticed the missing door and thought it would make a good story. I look forward to your future plans which I suspect will include some type of door locking system to avoid a repeat.
Wow thats come so far and looks even better with the extra chop and roof etc. Congrats on all your hard work!
Congrads on great runs. U were drinking tea? Someone force u? Any body damage with door opening or blew completely away?
Thanks everyone, we had a great weekend doing exactly what we set out to do build a cheap car to have fun in out of our old left over parts, plans are already in the works for next years event
