    Hello,

The original concept for my 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery was to be bright orange.. It came with black rims and a small chrome hubcaps. We found out later that the owner had just painted it in the late hours of Thursday night and so, it was a brand new paint job. It looked outstanding when he rolled into the drive-in restaurant parking lot. But, as the night wore on, the comments of “what color is the paint actually?” popped up consistently.

Salmon pink was chosen as the color of choice. Now, the owner was totally ticked off and now wanted to sell the powerful, sedan delivery. So, I offered him a good price and he pondered over it and said no. Then for the next hour or so, we went back and forth until we agreed on a lower price I could afford, but without the 348 Chevy motor.

Now, I owned the flathead powered sedan delivery and it was a very cool surf wagon transportation. Despite the name given to it, "salmon pink cruiser..." I drove it to school, parked in the first several spaces for all to see as they walked into the main entrance and folks saw it in almost every surf spot from Long Beach to Camp Pendleton.

So, every time I drove to school or to the drive-in restaurant parking lot, it did not rumble as it came into the parking lot. It hummed and did not make any noise. The shouts of “ribbing” were louder than the motor sounds.

But, it was paid for and ran like a top everywhere we went. I put on 1000s of miles during our surf explorations and cruising when we got home. So, it was an all purpose hot rod. One thing it had going for it, the parents of the girl I dated did not like the back area and I had to explain the opening was to haul our speed equipment stuff. And our surfing and camping equipment plus food. So, the small mattress was always taken out for the visits to the parent’s house. YRMV

Mid 30's English Ford Model Y. I have never seen another so suspect it was a four door in it's earlier life, very well done if it is. JW[IMG]
