A terrible crash for sure. What was the other vehicle, and injuries sustained in it?

A few years ago I searched out Strong's Garage when I was in the area. The door was closed and the windows papered up. I knocked on the door and Matt opened it and asked if he could help me. I replied that I was “lost in time”!

He said come on in and though Matt and Jim were quite busy they spent almost two hours chatting with me. Both of them are truly fine gentlemen.

When I heard about Matt’s collision today I was floored. I will be contributing to the Go Fund Me page... Hopefully a lot of brother HAMBers will as well!

I ran across this video that showcases his bluegrass talents, I believe this is his sister he's playing with. there are a few more out there if you search YouTube on his name.

The Go Fund Me was paused yesterday as they raised more than enough money to sustain them for a long time.

My thoughts too. They didn't come apart like that when new.

Have you ever inspected the results of a head on crash?
You don't know the speed of the impact, the location on the truck's body the impact took place, nor the direction the damage was directed.

Go back and read about the crash my mom & dad had with their almost new Ford pickup.

You nailed it. I work with accident reconstruction specialists, I leave the determination of cause and fault to them.

Online "collision investigators" crack me up.

From the angle of the box and chassis it looks like Matt steered away from the oncoming vehicle. However I’m no accident investigator nor was I there...

The skid mark says otherwise. Looks like it goes straight ahead to me, but it's weird that there is only one.

Main thing is that he is still with us, and that his progress is good. Head-ons often end less well.

Wishing Matt all the very best and a speedy recovery.
Unfortunately it's bad accidents like this that show/expose why seat belts should always be attached to the cabin/body and NOT to the chassis/frame.

Another update from the GoFundMe as of today:

    "Update: Matt is HOME!

We are overjoyed to share that on August 19, Matt was discharged from the hospital and returned home. After so many long and difficult days in the ICU and trauma ward, being back under the same roof as Cassie and the kids is nothing short of a miracle.

This journey has been filled with countless answered prayers — from Matt’s survival after the accident, to his steady progress in recovery, and now the incredible blessing of having him home again. The Hottes are now looking forward to quieter days — time to rest, recover, and simply be together as a family. There is still a long road of healing ahead, but this milestone is one worth celebrating with deep gratitude.

Cassie and Matt want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your ongoing prayers, encouragement, and generosity. Your support has carried them through some of the hardest weeks of their lives.

Please continue to keep Matt, Cassie, Porter, Faron, Hazel, and baby Ida in your prayers as they adjust to this new season and focus on Matt’s recovery at home.

    With heartfelt thanks,
    Team Hotte"

That right there is some great news!
Prayer works. I will keep the family in my prayers.

The left side skid mark is towards the right side of his lane, the right side skid mark is right on the edge of the pavement. I guess we are all****uming the skid marks are from the front tires, they could be the rear tires locking up!

If the skid marks are from the front tires, that means they were not rotating, so they also couldn't turn the truck. That is one of the reasons anti lock brakes became a thing, when the front tires quit rotating, they also quit steering. If the front tires do not lock up, they can still steer the truck.

Pretty sure that long black streak isn't a skid mark but tar from a road repair. I saw someone post elsewhere that the other driver may have had a medical emergency that caused the crash so he may not have had a chance to brake at all.

It looks like a tar streak to me as well. In any case, speculating about the cause of the collision without knowing any facts benefits no one.

that is one heck of a smack there too tho . . .

I see the front right skid mark now, way out near the grass and continuing to where the chassis came to a stop. The left front mark maybe stops where the impact occurred. I can't see the left front tire on the vehicle. Probably torn off. Looks like Matt could not have moved over any further without leaving the road.

    Hope the healing continues.
