  2. My kind of custom! One question though... Is this a daylight-only car, or do you plan to drive it at night? If you plan to be out after dark, you'll want to rotate the lamps/buckets so the lettering is parallel to the road. If you don't, you'll be lighting everything except the road and pissing off the poor SOB coming at you with glare...

This must be the Cunningham car? Pre fender coves?

I will be spending a fair amount of time adjusting headlights when it is running and driving. Can't be much worse than these new LED headlights! I know my 2015 cadillac gets flashed quite often for having "brights" on when the low beams are on. But generally this will be a daylight car. I don't like driving at night in an old car unless I am in town.

Sure looks like it! I never liked how the rear fender height interrupts/ muddies the bodyline back there.

    It's kinda coming together now...

If you're like me, you spend a fair amount of time walking circles around your car. If you're REALLY like me, you can "see" in your mind's eye (I call it hallucinating) whatever stance, modification, color, interior design, wheel and tire combo, or any other design aspect you might be thinking of.
It's a shame I don't practice drawing, because there are hundreds of custom ideas in my head. I can see it and sculpt it in metal much easier than drawing it with good proportion.

    Anyways, headlights.

    Thank you!
    Thanks!

I have been thinking about it... no special grille... it'll be the only thing that isn't modified except for the doors.

Interesting; always thought the stock grille looked out of place on the Cunningham '40 with the quads.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't know what else I'd do.. i have drawn out a lot of options, looked at the Matador for too long, and just haven't found anything I like better. It might change, but it would be the last body modification. I just want to get the headlights done so I can work on the tail end next month.

I've always really liked the 39 Deluxe grille almost more than the 40. But, even still, not custom. Soooo hard to come up with something better than the grilles Ford put there.

Bottoms of the headlights are about done, using a deep jaw shrinker stretcher and a pipe anvil. The fenders need to be radiused for tire clearance eventually, so that's what that line is for.

Thanks, Jeff! Just a fun art project!

As I stated before, the headlights will have some other tricks going on, like gold textured metal, white pearloid inlays, and these gold bullets. 20250824_144606.jpg 20250824_144547.jpg 20250824_144527.jpg

I'll be interested in how you radius the fenders. I have a low 38 dlx that I believe I will need to radius the fenders.
    I'm loving this build.

    Thanks!!

Lol I'll get to it when I can!! I have an Auto Body class coming up this weekend and then I need to get back on customer cars for a week or two, then another chop class, then a pedal car metal shaping class... I'll be lucky to get the basic framework done this month, then skin it in November...December is booked, but I should be able to get a solid week in on it in January. Hoping to have it all in primer and bodywork done by June 1st next year!
